M&P 9mm

Yes, yes there is. Are you looking for anything specific?

I own two. The M&P 9mm Pro series and compact models. The compact is a great carry weapon with a 12 round magazine but the Pro series shoots much (much) better due to the hard sear, polished ramp and trigger action. You can shoot almost any 9mm load available but S&W warns against shooting +P+ ammo. I've shot several thousand rounds with each gun and so far only one (honestly, only one) stovepipe to clear.

And an even better option with a Dan Burwell or Apex Tactical trigger. Absolutely zero issues with my 9L.

M&P 9c

Well, like Mr. Lynch, I have never had a problem with jams with my M&P9c, however, the slide, extractor, and sights have all rusted. I am sending it back to S&W, yet again, to get it serviced, and they are going to replace the barrel again due to defects in the barrel.

Both barrels they have replaced have had chunks of the inner barrel become missing after firing about 100 rounds. Don't know if anyone else has experienced these problems, but I am seriously considering picking up another Mark 23 to carry.

Your stainless steel slide is rusting??? Where do you keep the gun? How do you clean it? I have guns that are 40 years old that have no rust on them.

Well, I was incredulous when I found it rusting as well. After all, that is the purpose of utilizing stainless steel for the slide on a model designed for concealed carry service. It is my belief that I have just purchased a defunct pistol. S&W is talking about a refund or replacing it if I have to send it in again, or if it is not repaired to my expectations. In all fairness, they are trying to take care of the issues, I am just having major concerns about the parts I am receiving after replacement.

As for where I keep it; it is in a leather holster whilst carrying and in a clean, dry, and concealed location when I am at home. I usually wipe it down with a clean dry cloth before I put it up as well. I always clean it immediately after returning from range with Hoppe's no. 9 solvent, q-tips, patches, nylon and wire bore brushes, Hoppe's Bench Rest Copper solvent, gun oil and gun grease.

The extractor and sights however does not seem to be stainless. If there is a step I am overlooking, I would be very appreciative for the information. I also have some rifles and shotguns from the early 1900's that are rust free, and they have been taken care of in the same manner.

Wow, that is some news...

Sounds like you are taking dang good care of it and still having problems.

I was kind of hoping you'd say you kept it in your wet basement wrapped in a damp towel and cleaned it yearly.:p

Stainless can rust, varying grades rust easier.

I too have a few older SS wheelguns with no rust or corrosion at all. I hope they make it right for you.

Wow! I've never seen Melonite coated stainless steel rust before and I live in southeast Texas with the worst darn humidity you can imagine. The Melonite coating is a nitrogen bonding process that adds wear resistance to the high strength stainless steel. The only way rust could occur is if the coating was scratched somehow and the base metal underneath was exposed to air and moisture. I've shot several thousand rounds through both my M&Ps and haven't seen any rust or wear at all.

Let me know if you have any issues with S&W service. They've been great to me in the past.

Man, talk about a difference in guns!!

Never seen an M&P rust. Hope you figure it out.

Wow! I must be rough on my 9mm... I just got it about a month ago and have put 500 or so rounds and I can see some wear on the top where the slide covers the "9 mm" on the top. I also have a few other marks but I guess I can't complain, it's a great gun!

I thought it was very odd myself. I am not sure about the coating or quality of alloy; but hey, third time is the charm right.?

I will keep everyone posted. They have fixed it before, let's see what happens next.

I have rust on my M&P40c at the rear of the slide in front of the sights and on the rear sight as well. I live in a very dry environment and have only shot the gun a few times with no noticable wear on any metal parts including the top of the slide.

Out here, where I come from, there is a history of tall tales being told to entertain and influence the gullible. Of course to say the only man in West Texas to ever rival me was Pecos Bill, who dug the Rio Grande with a stick to water his cattle is entirely true, trust me. You can believe I love my M&P and rhat none of my stainless guns has rusted yet including the cheap imported 357 that has rested in my truck for several years and cleaned occasionally.

Just bought an MP9c about a month ago. Feels great in the hand for a compact. Have run 100 rounds through it and have had two FTE's, like the extractor "lost it's grip" on the brass. Hope to find the cause of this and correct it since I recently ordered a Cross Breed holster for it. As of right now, not real confident in this weapon but want to make it work...I'm really trying to stick with "Made in America"!

That's all the news I have about the M&P, probably not what you were looking for, eh?

Here's the news on my M&P9: the front sight dot blew off at about 300 rounds, as has happened to many people on this forum. Am I sorry about this? Nope. I'll fix that with some nail polish. This time I get to pick the color!

I went shooting at the range to which I belong, on Friday. I only took my M&P9. I put about 200 rounds through it. It was so hot when I was done that I couldn't touch the forward part of the slide and I would have burned myself badly had I touched the barrel. I did all this shooting without the front sight dot. It still made plenty of nice holes in the paper!
