M&P Boredom

Cold & rainy here today, so I decided to wax and polish my old M&Ps. They turned out pretty good, I think, except for that funky old Navy gun. No amount of rubbing would fix that one - I may have to put the polishing wheel on the ol' bench grinder.

I think that Navy may be one that was given the experimental asphalt finish on the day the factory roof was being retarred. I believe no guns were ever so tested after the first production run. Many of those guns are rumored to have ended up filling potholes in the company parking lot. Few survived. You have a rare one.

Peter, I am thinking if you put that nasty old Navy gun on the grinder and get that funky finish off you could hacksaw the barrel to 2", have it chromed at Bubba's, put some plastic grips on it and list it on an auction site starting at $850 as a custom gun.

Jerry: the Target dates from 1917 and has the most beautiful grips of any S&W I own.

I'd leave the "Navy" gun as-is, if that's its original finish; historical accuracy and all that. If it's a botched refinish, a good park job would do the trick.
IMO, of course. Worth every bit of what you paid.
