M&P C Series serial no.

I'm trying to determine the year of manufacture and/or shipping date for an M&P .38 Special serial no. C 209312. I think it's somewhere around 1952 but I may be off two years either way. Thanks for any guidance.

Is it common that a revolver might be made in one year but not ship for 12 or more months? It has a "half-moon" front sight. Was it about then that the ramp came into use on M&Ps?

Yes. And the "official" change order for the front sight happened sometime in 1952, but there is no definite cut-off and such minor design changes always had several months of overlap time.
