Hello all

I am a recent convert to Smith & Wesson after many years of SIG Sauer.

I recently traded my SIG Sauer P229 Legion DA-SA 9mm for the newly released M&P Performance Center 2.0 Carry Comp - Polymer frame.

Mounted an RMR, for the first time, very impressed with the results.

Only negative, the trigger reset.

Hopefully I'm time and with more training it will become second nature.IMG_20250510_191119.jpgIMG_20211214_230224_7.jpg

I find the bigger Sig models to be awkward in regard to grip angle and the height of the slide above the hand position. The Sig P365 is the one exception and is one of my favorite.

Most of the M&P line feels great to my particulars. Hopefully you and the M&P will settle in after a while.

The trigger reset will get better once you stop holding it upside down… :)
What I will say… you traded a damn good Sig in.

I have that same S&W..it’s a shooter for sure. I originally put an Apex kit in it, just wasn’t a fan, and switched to Overwatch. Big difference.
I’m not going to say the factory trigger was bad, I just like a certain look and feel, and I like a metal trigger.

I’m floating between 750 and 1000 rounds through mine, zero issues, zero malfunctions. It just eats and eats.

Absolutely have withdrawal symptoms from the Gray Guns SRT trigger 😤
I was stunned by the comparative low price also, compared to Glock, SIG and other similar sized models.
Such a quality built feature packed firearm.
It's just my opinion, but until I'll put a few hundred rounds through it to break it in and for me to gel with it like any other new firearm.

Thanks for your feedback

I bounced around a bit in my early shooting years, but quickly became a serious 1911 guy for competition. When I entered law enforcement the 1911 wasn’t an option… and I was required to use a Beretta 92FS. It wasn’t my favorite, but it has become one of my favorites now. In 2009, Sig Classic Series in DA/SA 9mm/.45 were approved, and I bought a P229R, P220 (West German) and P226R. Absolutely loved them.

The only thing that moved me away from Sigs was a broken trigger finger that was acting up. I could only reliably pull a striker trigger, and the M&P had been approved so… that’s how it went.

A lot of time has gone by since then (2011). I worked for a large full-time law enforcement firearm training unit. I did stuff and saw several thousand M&Ps (both 1.0 and 2.0), and hundreds if not thousands of Glocks in use. I saw lots of other pistols as well. I was part of individual pistol testing of over two thousand M&Ps alone for duty issue. (That was only a small percentage of the total number issued.)

1911s and Glocks were approved in 2016 and I have several Glocks, a bunch of Berettas, and a bunch of 1911s. The 1911 is my favorite pistol. I’m retired now and have no need to be politically correct regarding S&W successes and failures. I can cite several examples of both and probably will in other posts. I probably have in some older posts.

If I had to choose a pistol to fight today now with no information other than I’ll have to fight to death with a pistol, I’d choose an M&P. Not a Glock. Not a 1911. The M&P isn’t my favorite, but I trust it more than anything else, especially when I get to vet it myself.

The trigger isn’t bad… in fact it’s pretty great for a striker fired pistol. SA pistols and DA/SA pistol reset sure beats it, but reset is the least important part of trigger movement. It should be done as fast as possible to concentrate on the important stuff. Any change takes adjustment and acclimation. I think you’ll find that once you’ve gotten used to the trigger, it’s everything you need.

Some will change triggers. All of my triggers are stock. I’ve put Apex barrels in most of my current M&Ps, and other than my Simunition pistol, which can’t accept a thumb safety, all but one has the thumb safety installed. I have the parts for the last one, but have been lazy. Other than that and adding optics, I don’t mess with them too much. One has a Floyd’s magwell.

I say all this because the M&P is not my first or my only. It’s not showy… but it works. I wish my favorite gun was something I could say was ā€œthe bestā€, but the M&P is far closer to best. I’ve personally seen M&Ps with well over 100,000 rounds and going strong. I personally abused an M&P with no cleaning or lubrication for 3-4 years (man… now that I think of it, it’s been a while… older posts…) and 30,000 to 40,000 rounds. This included burying in sand, mud, dunking in water, spraying with salt water, crazy rapid fire for hundreds of rounds, a broken recoil spring (still continued to fire for don’t know how long until I noticed it), and even freezing it in a block of ice. Yes… Not normal or realistic. I was impressed, and I didn’t even carry an M&P at the time.

All that to say… the M&P is a phenomenal pistol and well worth converting to.

Firstly, thank you for your service, hope you are adjusting to retirement.
Thank you for sharing your experience and a page or two of your history and extensive knowledge gained over the years.
I share a similar opinion, meaning my favorite EDC as opposed to a firearm that I would battle test preference.
For me it was between Glock & M&P
Having seen the advances made recently by Smith and Wesson, Glock can stay in the gun cabinets...
Once again, greatly appreciated your feedback.

I bought my first M&Ps 12 or 13 years ago. Accuracy sucked compared to my Combat Commander. Then I had trigger problems with the 9MM (dead triggers and light strikes). Finally got those fixed and kept going. Then I had safety issues with either the 9 or the .40 (don't remember which one that was) due to the trigger bar riding up over the safety there on the right side. Got that fixed. Between the accuracy issues and safety issues I moved to CZ's.

What a change. All the accuracy I wanted, reliability and confidence in them. Carried them for years (most the P07 but some P01/CZ75 Compact carry). I got my wife a Shield 9MM. Explain to me why the tiny little Shields shoot rings around the full size guns? I bought myself one. Same thing. Nice little groups. Then I took a chance on a Shield Plus and again got nice groups.

My wife had slide racking issues with her Shield and I bought her an Equalizer. Some teething issues with the grip safety and trigger (not as smooth/crisp as the Shield) but she got used to the grip safety and the trigger wore in. Now I carry the Shield Plus all the time because the spare mags I carry also fit her Equalizer.

I have found a KKM Precision barrel in .40 will really make the full size M&P .40's shine.

I've pretty much put the CZ's away and full time carry the Shield Plus when carrying concealed.

Another thing I like about the M&Ps is parts availability and the way I can buy used/new parts and a stripped frame and build up what I want. Got a Compact .40 built up that way and in the process of putting two more Shield Plus pistols together. Bought 4" 9MM Shield 2.0 slides and built those up to put on the first two Shield Plus frames. Now I'm building up two stripped frames to put the left over slides on.

I hear you M1 on the Shield Plus spring rate..it’s a bear to rack and my wife simply isn’t a fan of it.
So… yeah, she gets the compact carry comp.. I just ā€œwork on itā€ and ā€œkeep it cleanā€ā€¦ LOL.
I have 2XL hands..and it doesn’t bother me. But someone with smaller, weaker hands, compromised grip, totally get it.

I am lucky to have both, comp carry and shield comp carry.. they both shoot well.
So well, I went all in on the Metal (Steel) series V spec series… can’t wait to let that one eat.

Sorry, getting way off topic OP.
