M&P Disassembly ?

I have noticed that you do not actually have to flip the sear deactivation lever to disassemble the M&P 9 (No mag safe, no interlock). You can just pull the slide back, flip the disassembly lever up front, release the slide, pull the trigger and off it comes. You CAN pull the trigger the old fashioned way if you want.
Does anyone know if this is bad for the gun or if I should actually flip the deactivation lever (pain in the ***) every time,... or if I check the chamber (duh) is it ok to just pull the trigger and slide it off??

I DONT want to mess up my new M&P, so thanks for the info.

I've done the same, it won't work with guns that have the mag safety. I doubt it really hurts anything you're just releasing the striker.

S&W cust. service told me that is the way that most people disassemble it.

I specifically asked this question of Joe Bergeron (in charge of autos at S&W and a major player in the design of the M&P) and he said it will not hurt the gun. He did, however, remind me that to do so negates a major safety feature - disassembly without pulling the trigger.

If the concern is about removal of the pin/tool (they are tight) to depress the sear release lever, then use a bic pen or some similar object.

Having to pull the trigger to take it apart has apparently caused a fairly large number of accidental discharges among police and others, which is why S&W put the design in the M&P.

I have heard that too. Apparently a major LE complaint about the GLOCK. I am happy that it disassembles either way but saddened that people are not checking their chamber

The Glock is a wonderful design, and safe as safe can be.............it is not the fault of their engineers if a cretin pulls the trigger on a chambered round...............check the fudgeing chamber, and then, if SAFE, pull the trigger, and disassemble.
I prefer the Glock proceedure, as it does not require a tool........

thats what this whole inquiry was about...the fact that you need no tool to disassemble, if you do it the way I do without disengaging the sear (CHECK CHAMBER FIRST) then I think this is the easiest disassembly on the market. yes easier than glock. its the same thing you just flip a lever instead of pulling down 2 tabs at the same time while holding the slide back.
Oh and I want a Glock 19 now too to have alongside my M&P9.

How could anyone want a Glock after experiencing the feel of a M&P... It defies reason!

YES I KNOW!!!! thats what confuses me. I have had a sigma and now the M&P which I think is a better overall gun than a Glock. When I upgraded from the sigma I was considering a Glock or an M&P...I figured the glock was damn near the same exact thing as a sigma (similar enough to me at least...looks it inside and out) so got an M&P9 and love it. Yet i still find myself wanting a G19!!! Why!?!? help me. Would I be stepping backwards to go buy a Glock now? (im NOT trading my M&P, i just want both.)
Help.

If the Glock grip fits you then I'd get one. The third gen Glocks fit me better, but still not great and there's not much you can do with them if they don't. If you like these new-here-fangled-things you should check out a S&W/Walther 99 series with the anti-stress trigger. Probaly the next best thing to the M&P in my book, changable grip inserts, cocked striker indicator. I didn't care for the DAO or QA versions, but I'm kinda old school.
