This is a factory built piston rifle the part # 811023 M&P -15P or PSX
I have one and absolutely love it. Smooth as silk to shoot and super easy to clean. I have had 4 colt HBAR match rifles over the las 15 years and and 1 Bushmaster Varmit AR and bar none this piston gun is the best of em all.
I just looked on the S&W site and they are no longer building that rifle, had to type in part # in search block and it is now an archieved product. cost on mine was $1395.00 and their MSRP was $1499.00. Hope that helps.

I bought an M&P15 P when they first came out for $1000 and never looked back. S&W uses the Adams Arms piston set up and it's a good one. The recoil is a little sharper than my DI AR but it definately runs cleaner. I don't think there is any real advantage over the original DI gun which in reality are piston gun (the bolt is the piston). But everyone is building a piston AR now so it's more than a passing fad.

The one that is in S&W's new catalog is almost a dead ringer to your's only the "new" one has a quad rail handguard. I'm planning on going over tomorrow and double checking. I ordered it because it is a piston. :D

My M&P 15 PS (Piston) is almost two years old, has fired countless magazines without a failure of any kind, and is the most accurate rifle I have ever owned. It is fast and easy to clean, and frankly I have no complaints about this gun. I have installed a Magpul hand guard, EOTech XPS sight, Geissele Super Semi-Automatic Enhanced (SSA-E) Trigger, and a few other goodies.

The downside is the cost and all the trash talk from the DI guys on all of the forums. They complain about the extra "weight" of the piston. I measured my piston, spring, etc and it came to a mere 6 ounces. The same guys will then hang lights, lasers, and countless other add-ons to their DI rifles, but think nothing of the "weight" of those items.

I think the piston system is the future of high powered rifles. Every major manufacturer is making a piston rifle and the military is adding them to their arsenals as well.

My buddy just got his from GB and loves it. I want to see it and hope they come out with the new version, I'm in for one if they do! Thanks for the heads up.
