Found this 4" .38 spl. M&P at the LGS. Pretty rough on the outside, like new inside. Grips are real stag or bone?
Soaked in Kroil for 3 days to remove most of the exterior rust, no bad pits.
Bore and cylinder nice and shiny. Serial is C 155,xxx.
Should make a good shooter.

Congrats on your purchase. Your M&P with the early C155 would put this revolver in the 1948 to 1950 range. The experts will give you a closer year than me. Also, most of the collectors would call your revolver a pre-10. Your revolver has the newer short throw action. The revolver should shoot well after cleaning. There is not any collector value to the revolver.
I have had several ones like yours in the 1950 to 1954 range. They make good shooters.
Good luck,

More likely ca. 1951, I think; if you didn't pay too much, can't go wrong with a mechanically sound one of these.
