A few weeks ago I found this M&P at the Reno gun show. The serial number is 2653xx, which I think places it around 1916-17. The numbers under the barrel and on the rear of the cylinder match. The grips are not original to the gun. The right side grip is numbered in pencil 157306. But, I think that these are period correct for this revolver. The finish is worn, but that is just what I was looking for. I want to shoot this M&P and not worry about putting a mark on a pristine finish. The cylinder has very little end play, or wobble. The barrel is very good. I have taken pics of the right and left side barrel markings. I have not seen this configuration before, but I have no idea whether or not it is uncommon, or has any significance. Perhaps someone here might be able to add something.
I am happy with my purchase. These older S&W's are hard to beat.
