M&P IDPA holster

My wife has an M&P 9mm on lay a way, probably won't be able to finish paying for it till after Christmas. In the meantime I'm wondering what holster might be recommended for her, OWB strictly for IDPA. I'm sure many would work, interested in opinions good and bad. I'm not pro any particular material, I own a Milt Sparks, Fobus, DeSantis, Kholster.

I use the Blade-tech holster that came with my range kit, works well for me and IDPA approved:

Comp Tac or Blade Tech are the most used for the M&P in IDPA, for good reason.
I'd forget the leather for competition with an M&P.
If you just want something cheap, that's the FOBUS.
Last Sat I shot in an 83 person USPSA match and finished 6th out of 22 in Production Division (won my class) using Blade Tech holster and mag carriers for the Pro9 5" M&P. Never had to even think about my equipment, just how to shoot some nasty stages!

In several years and tens of thousands of rounds, I haven't noticed any. However, I don't look at my guns through a microscope, nor do I expect them to look new forever.

The most worn gun I have is a S&W 442 that lives in a leather pocket holster. And frankly, I don't care; it shoots 100%.

I've only had mine a few months, but so far have not seen any marks. I use it weekly in a local IDPA-style competition.

The area where you'll notice marks on the gun is often the trigger guard because this is where most of the retention occurs.

The Blade Tech holster that's provided with the kit isn't the most stable platform IMHO. Try several models and other brands. My complaint is that when I attempt to acquire a solid & high three finger grip during the draw stroke, I find the holster body flexes away from my body.

I ask this question because I just bought a new STI Trojan from Dawson Precision. I noticed that they sell the Blade Tech holsters to fit the STIs, but I was hesitant because I did not want to scuff the finish on the gun.

There are many fine Holsters to choose from. Essentially there is no one-size fits all, Best Model.

It's often best to try them on before you buy, but for some types this is not possible. If your an IDPA Shooter you need something that is approved obviously. There are lots of good opinions here and many you-tube videos on this topic where you can see what may work for you.

I have a Comp-Tac model and it is a great holster for IDPA and my routine range work. It has just enough retention molded in to keep it safe, but yet readily & rapidly accessible when you need it.
