Here's another report from the Shot Show. Looks like those who wished for a .22 version of the M&P may be getting their wish!

Sorry if this is old news. Didn't see anything about them on the board.

Hope it's as good as it looks. If I had an M&P semiauto I'd be putting in my order now. I've always felt that duty guns should have a .22 subcaliber version for training and practice. The recession plus the number of people who train harder nowadays seem to have really brought things to life.

The Model 18 I bought almost 30 years ago has sure earned its keep. I'm starting to look harder at the 15-22 rifles for the same reasons.

Terrific! I wish S&W made 22 LR versions/conversions for all of its auto pistols.

Let's just hope it is an in house S&W product and not a Ceiner built unit.

It's made by Walther and has an aluminum slide. :(

However, Scott @ Apex kind of hinted that they're working on a high quality conversion.

No, no, this is an M&P in.22.

That's certainly what I was hoping for!!!!!

i like the fact that there will be a 22 conversion available now ;)

It appears that the S&W M&P22 is of the same ilk as the 22 caliber 1911 look alikes. I would prefer a true 22 conversion unit which wil fit my M&P. I only hope that either Apex or Tactical Solutions will offer one in the future.

Hope it's a conversion. I doubt that a .22 M&P will sell that well on it's own. Especially an aluminum slide version. IMHO, the .22 M&P attraction is in a low cost, easy to install trainer for those who already own the M&P.
( It's why I bought conversions for my Sig P220 and 1911's anyway.)

If it's made by Walther will the S&W warranty cover cover it?

I know someone with a Walther P22 who had problems and was told it was only covered for a year because S&W didn't make it.

I just ordered one from my S&W dealer and he'll have some as soon as they're available. Looks like a fun gun.

Yep this bad boy will be mine, too, if it performs as well as it looks. I only bought 5 guns this week, so hopefully this one comes out soon so I can buy another. :D

Just back from the Shot Show. I handled the .22 M&P. I was disappointed. The gun uses a barrell similar to that of the Walter P22 but the problem is it uses a fixed back strap that is equal to the medium insert used on the M&P9. I told Smith this was a mistake. It needs to be interchangable so as to allow training by the younger and smaller shooters. I wanted one for my daughter, who has small hands, to use.

Now the S&W 1911 enhanced, that's another story, sweet!
