Ive searched the forums and found nothing on this subject. Has anyone heard of any rumors about a mid size pistol? I currently have a shield and found that the compact is not much bigger but the full size certainly is not CC option for me. A midsize sounds delicious...something in between the full size and the compact.

I sure hope not! I stay in trouble enough as it is! I am having a hard enough time feeding the hungry mouths of the S&W spawn around here already. But like any loving family, I'm sure I can find a way to provide if it REALLY comes down to it!

The 45fs has a 4.5" barrel not 5".

S&W makes a full size(FS, 4,5" barrel) 45 M&P. They make a 45c (Not stamped c on the slide, but the barrel is 4"). The 45 M&P frames vary in grip length. The slide rail lengths on both 45 frames are identical. This permits assembling a 4.5" FS barrel/slide on a compact frame. Some are calling this mashup a midsize. Could this be what your rumors refer to?
BTW, S&W sells this "Midsize 45 M&P" from the factory. A lot of posters like it.
Also BTW, the M&P 9/357sig/40 full size and compact frames have different slide rail lengths, so this mid size conversion is not possible, at least not now.

The factory makes a mid-sized 45: 4 inch barrel on the full size 45 frame.
Some may ask "why". For me it makes sense because I can have a full sized gun and a compact gun that share the same holster. One could also have one compact 45 and use an x-grip extension and have the same thing as the mid-size. Kind of two guns in one. BTW my mid-size 45 is my favorite M&P.
