M&P pistols: how to make the slide serractions smoother?

When carrying my M&P pistol (both the full size and compact version) the slide serrations tend to scrape the bare skin. (In Az. we often only wear one shirt in the hot weather)

Other than grinding down the serrations (not a fun thought) how else could I make the slide less uncomfortable?

-right now, I just use a thumb snap holster, which acts as a barrier.
- I suppose one could also tack some sort of tab onto the side of an open top holster to protect the skin as well.

Any other ideas?...

Cover the rough spots with some tape. Masking or colored duct tape.

Or Mole skin?

there are holsters that are larger because of this. Check out the crossbreed super tuck.

I'm picking up my new kydex holster for my 40c tomorrow. It's got a designed-in sweat guard to provide a barrier between your pistol and your bare skin, if that's the case. I currently own a small (one piece, roll over) kydex holster with a single belt clip and neutral cant. I like kydex because it's durable, light weight, rigid (for easy reholstering), thin, washable and easy on/easy off. I believe this new (two piece, pancake) holster will be a step up from the one I currently CCW with. It is made by a custom holster maker, who also is becoming a prolific contributor to this forum, as well as the S&W CCW forum. The name of his company is Personal Security Systems and his name is Steve. http://www.psholsters.com/

I will be providing an objective product review after I get a chance to take it for a ride for at least two weeks. Attached are a couple of pics of the actual holster that I'm getting. Steve guarantees his work, and told me that if I'm not satisfied, I can return it for a full refund.

Thanks for showing the inside of the holster, MotorCity, it helps to see how they set it up on that side of the holster.

I will await your review...

Just my opinion, but I would not put anything on the gun that may prevent it or you from operating it properly.

The correct solution is a holster with a sweat shield.

Check our local holster guy.

Very much agree. Tape or other material could come off at the worst time.

The holsters look interesting. They seem to already be aware of the need for a slide shield on these newer pistols.

thanks...

I'll second that. The SuperTuck is quite comfortable even against bare skin.

No longer have the rear sight digging into your hip, or the muzzle end of the slide jabbing into your leg. Half of the time you forget you're wearing the thing until you bump your hip into something and hear a *clunk*.

Raven *Phantom* can be worn either IWB with soft loops or OWB. The only holster that I will invest in and I have three plus the mag carriers from Malabar Front. You can't beat this holster for fast drawing. The leather backed ones will lose retension because the leather will stretch, and I know of friends whose guns fell out when they bent over.

The Malabar Front

Those serrations are there for a purpose. I had extra serrations added for even easier racking.

I would strongly advise against altering your pistol, or adding anything to it. The holsters shown by the above replies are the best answer. While you're waiting for a new holster, you might try marking the side of your hip where the gun touches it, and then apply one of those large bandaids where the mark is. Kind of a goofy solution, and you have to change it every day, but it will work until you get a holster with a sweat shield on it.

I carry in a Galco Summer Comfort year round in Arizona. If it is too hot I wear a T shirt with the gun OC. If I wish to hide it momentarily a light weight cover shirt goes on till the need/desire for cover goes away. The only place in AZ that you must CC is in an establishment that serves alcholic beverages. The only time in the last 4 years the gun bothered me was when I installed a Warren Tactical rear sight. The Warren sight was sharp and quite irritating so got traded off.

I hope you find a good solution.
