Hey guys

Been getting more familiar with the M&P Pro 9 I purchased a little while ago. Not sure of round count but getting up to about I grand I would estimate. Used it heavily first few times at range and took a tactical training course with my son and estimate 300 rounds through it during the course. Running great for most part. Had a few FTF during training course but found they were contributed to speed loader of mags.

However, during training a few times the slide didnt lock back when empty, guess about three times. Last weekend at the range same thing, about 200 rounds and guess three times slide didnt lock back when empty. Weekend before maybe 2 times slide didnt lock with about 150 rounds.

Could this be consider a break in issue? Maybe the spring has to be worked more? Just wanted your thoughts.

Thanks

(BTW, side note, I replaced my Bersa Thunder Pro9 as carry with a M&P9c and really like this pistol as well!. No slide issues on the M&P9C)

I wasnt careful enough to check which mag was in with the lock issue so cant say. So a mag could cause the slide not too lock? I did notice all the new mags, for my Pro and 9c, were extremely stiff spring when first used but getting better now.

Without an empty mag in place to push up the catch, it does not lock back.

Failure to lock back can also be caused by:
wimp ammo
dirty gun
improper lube
dragging a finger on slide

Are your mags factory mags? As I recall, there was an issue with the follower on the mags and I seem to recall S&W changing the design of the follower. If they are not factory mags, that might be your issue. Another gun I had, I had numerous mags for it. I took finger nail polish and put 1 dot, 2 dots, 3 dots, etc on the bottom of the mags. So if I had an issue I could see if it was with the same mag or not. The finger nail polish was easy enough to remove. Luckily I had no issues with that gun.

Take your slide off and insert an empty magazine. It should look like this:

If it looks like this instead...

...then the problem is with your magazine follower.

Call S&W and they will send you a new follower for free.

Guys thanks for help

I checked follower and looks good

All factory mags (and seated when issue arises)

I like the nail polish idea, will do that to monitor mags.

Using mostly cheap factory ammo, white box, etc

I do lube the slides with minor amount of Slip2000 so think that's ok?

Will watch my thumb on slide

Will report back

thanks again !

Be mindful also of your left thumb pushing down on the slide-stop while shooting. That was an issue for me on my M&P .22.

Jim- no sorry haven't been out to range yet, preparing for an airsoft event with my son.

Hopefully back out next weekend.

Hoping its minor and a mag or handling issue and not too concerned since the non lock slide only happened a few times.

But again, will still post back later

thanks

I am quite certain it is the problem of your thumb resting on the slide release.

I had the same problem in my M&P, until I realised it is because of my thumb position.

To verify this, take all your empty mags and load it into the gun and rack the slide back. If it stays back, it most likely means it is due to your thumb.
Hope this helps.
