M&P Profiled safety?

Hi all,
First post here. Bought an M&P 9C with thumb safety for my Wife. I think it's an excellent pistol overall. However, the thumb safety is rather large (reminds me of Dumbo ears). I've been doing some research and read about the Cane and Derby profiled safety. However, I can't seem to find anywhere that sells them. I know I could modify the safety on my own, but I'd like to keep the stock part as a "just in case" item. Does anyone know if the profiled safety is a part that's still available for sale?

S&W will send you the frame plugs for free to get rid of the safety... Not the answer you were looking for, but probably a good one none the less... :D

Well, considering I bought the pistol with the thumb safety for a specific reason, I'm not interested in removing it. Just want to taper it down a bit.

Q: Whatever happened to those awesome modded up low-profile safety levers for the M&P?
A: Well, supply chain issues happened. Our backlog was getting progressively worse, to the point where we were almost 6 months behind on orders. We couldn't get enough safeties to meet demand, and the number we could get was dwindling every month, so we decided to discontinue the product. That being said, if you have an M&P safety that you'd like reprofiled and/or textured, call us at 866-374-0656 to make arrangements and we'll be happy to modify yours for a small fee. We've been working on improving the supply chain issues and exploring different solutions so we can once again offer this product, but until then sending in your safety for modification is the only way to get one.

You could always buy an extra to keep stock.

I don't care for the canoe paddle safety levers, either. I had thought about modding the left side myself, and removing the right side lever altogether. Please let us know how you make out.

I will. Probably give it a try next week sometime. Thinking of just modding my current safety. If it gets screwed up I can always order another one and make do without it until the new one arrives.
It's actually my Wife's pistol. I like having a thumb safety in case she ever decides to get a CCW permit. That way she can carry it loaded in her purse with the safety engaged and not worry about lipstick getting inside the trigger guard resulting in the potential for an accidental discharge.

If your wife is going to carry it in her purse I'd advise getting a holster. One of those Sticky Holsters will work just fine & can also be used for pocket or inside the waistband carry. It's important that the trigger guard is always covered to avoid just the type of thing you're worried about with a tube of lipstick or any thing else getting in the trigger guard. I can't emphasize that enough.

Already have a sticky holster ready to go for her (used it for my CCW initially, but decided on a different design). I'd like her to get a CCW, but I'm not going to force her into anything she doesn't want.
 
A TS can be dis-engaged in a purse or a pocket. It can be as simple as bumping your car seat getting in and out, kitchen chair, recliner etc.

More so, in my opinion in a purse with it rocking back and forth or the contents within the purse. Most TS are outside of the containment of many holsters. My $0.02

However, a thumb safety lessons the chances of an accidental discharge. A profiled safety lessons it even more. A profiled safety that's had it's notch modified to stiffen it's resistance to inadvertent movement lessons it even more.

We could all go back and forth about the benefits/drawbacks of a thumb safety, but it all comes down to personal choice. I've made mine.

Just wanted to make you aware of potential issues, never mentioned that you should remove it. Having 2 M&P's WITH TS taught me these lessons.

I also, have made a choice. Mine are now removed.

Safety on a S & W 9 C

I purchased a M & P 9C a few years ago for my yearly qualification. I liked the idea of a safety on a police weapon. It has the potential to save a life. The stock safety was too large and the safety did not have enough tension. It was too easy to move on and off while holstered and it also was able to change position to the safe area, when you were shooting. I didn't like it and wrote several letters to S & W. I was told on the phone that nothing could be done to tighten it up, that it was a design flaw. They send me an extra safety lever, so that I could grind off the plastic and make them smaller. I didn't like the feel of the one that I made. Smith didn't make another option to resolve this problem. They did supply the small pieces to fill in the holes if I removed the safety levers, which is not what I wanted. I also tried some aftermarket sources without success. I write 4 letters to the S & W brass, without receiving an answer. I explained to them how they could be loosing LE sales because of this problem. No answer. This problem bothered me so much that I sold the gun and purchased a Ruger SR 9C. This is a great gun, accurate, and the safety works like its supposed to.
I was really disappointed with Smith when they dropped the ball with this problem. I do have other Smiths both revolvers and semi automatics that I am pleased with. The safety on the shield and Bodyguard both work like they are supposed to. S & W should listen to the end user a little more than they do!
