I've looked online and I've seen several different responses to this question does anyone definitely know what the "R" stands for on this sear besides the fact that's labeled competition? But it's similar to another one I have that doesn't have the "R".....

I have no idea what the "R" stands for, other than denote "Competition".

Back in the 1.0 days, the "standard" M&P's used a different sear that was rounded off in the front (contact with the trigger bar). The Performance Center ones had the "R" sear.

When the 2.0's came out, they all had the "R" sear as part of the overall trigger improvement. I'm only guessing that S&W dropped the "R" for later production M&Ps. Since the trigger bar no longer makes contact with the sear, the front profile likely doesn't really matter.

Way back, I upgraded my 1.0 Full and Compact with the "R" sear. Later I went full 2.0 Sear Housing in them.
