I purchased an M&P 2.0 compact this week. I go to put in for the rebate and it says the system does not recognize my serial number. It's now past the date to file for the rebate. What's going on?

What's going on is that you're told to mail in the rebate form. According to the instructions, rebate submissions must be postmarked by the end of THIS month for purchases thru the end if LAST month. Where's the hoax?

Check the date on the rebate against the day of purchase. Should be simple procedure. !

I purchased it on 9/28/17.

M&P rebate is a hoax.

A hoax? Then how are hundreds of thousands of them being mailed out and cashed? I've received 2 rebates for 2 purchases. I read and followed instructions, so apparently there's something to it. Yes I had to wait a bit. But I didn't buy the guns simply to get a rebate. Just a nice little bonus.

Just as long as the Remington 870 rebate is good, I am happy.

I am talking about the rebate for the two mags, two boxes of ammo, and a speed loader. The one that ended on 9/30/17.

The same goes for one I bought back at the beginning of June. I submitted it right away and now here we are, four months later, and still nothing.

It's not a hoax, all the possible serial numbers are not in their database. It says right on the form if it doesn't work to mail it in. You have until the end of October to do it.

I have no way to print that out. No printer. The library is just over 100 miles away. (I live out in the woods) it's not worth going to print and mail in.

OMG. I would say to hand write all the info then and send it in. But you are going to need a copy of your receipt too. Maybe take a Polaroid.

I don't think you guys are understanding. I went through all the steps. I uploaded the picture of my receipt. It's completely ridiculous. And work for my others.

Rebates are always ridiculous. It's the nature of the beast. Try some of the recent ammo rebates where you have to do all kinds of ridiculous stuff like cut each UPC off each box and staple them to pieces of paper. I did the UMC ammo last year and I swear it took me like an hour to do all the steps for my 40 boxes. But in the end I got my money back. They go out of their way to make it difficult. It is their plan to entice you to buy but then not follow all the stupid rules and give up. You have the whole month of October, I assume you would need to go into town at some point, do it then.

Is the 2.0 Compact even included? The rebate form names the Full Size M&P 2.0 as being eligible, but doesn't mention the 2.0 Compact.

Clearly states ANY M&P Full-size, compact or Shield.

That's correct. One could make the argument that refers to the original series, what people are calling the 1.0. It specifically states the Full Size M&P 2.0 and then goes on to say any M&P Full Size, Compact, or Shield. Just my take on it.

Actual verbiage from the rebate form:

"Offer valid on any NEW full size model M&P® M2.0™ pistol, any NEW full size or compact model M&P® pistol, and any NEW M&P Shield® pistol, all in calibers 9mm, 40S&W, and 45Auto, lawfully purchased between July 1, 2017 and September 30, 2017 (inclusive). No substitutions."

Rumor on another forum said they spoke to S&W and they will honor the rebate for the compacts but with 17 rounds mags. So who knows.

I am going to put in a call to Smith&Wesson tomorrow and see what they say. I will post up and let everyone know.

Fallhunter, contacting them is the right thing to do. Be polite and contrite. Admit to your failure and ask for an exemption. Sincerity coupled with humility will get you more than belligerence an laying blame.

You are not the only one to miss a rebate. I bought a Remington 380 three days after a deadline for a $50 rebate. I had decided on the gun based upon numerous glowing reviews. I had looked up the specs at the Remington website, but I never explored the rest of the website which housed a prominent rebate offer that would have saved me $50. I bought my gun three days too late.

Marines live by a simple code that if you screw it up you have to fix it up and if that can't be done you suck it up. (Side note: Imised to love the expressions on young Marine Officer candidates when I laid that on them as my career came to an end.)

So I did not appeal for an exemption, I screwed it up and was outside a deadline so I could not fix it up, so I sucked it up, along with a scotch on the rocks. (My error)

If I had simply not mailed it on time I would have appealed and said look, Imbought the gun before the deadline. I would admit I messed up on mailing, but point out that I did buy it in time and I hoped they would not deny me based upon a mailing deadline because being human I can and do make mistakes.

Maybe I would have gotten the rebate or maybe not. Either way it justified another scotch on the rocks. Ok I am going to get a glass with ice in it. Stuff like this should be the worst problem in our humble lives.

One last Scotch on the night table is that if I have to use my 380 tonight to protect against a home invader I assure you the lostb $50 will be forever meaningless and forgotten. It is all about perspective on life. Dont't sweat the little stuff and almost everything is little stuff.

I will admit absolutely no failure here. I did not fail. Their system is not recognizing my serial number. I did everything else right. It worked for others. I am just going to ask what's going on in regards to the first one and the other, well, ask if it's a ghost gun to them or something. Joke around with them a bit. Let them handle it.

Same thing happened to me when I bought an M&P for the clips/loader/ammo offer. Serial number was not in the system. So I followed the directions on how to deal with that and mailed it in. No hoax at all.

Your thread title is fake news! :(

Yup.......:D

Actually, they have mailed thousands of rebates, but when they saw your name, they decided to NOT send yours, but to continue to send all the others....I've gotten several rebates, only waiting on the last 2......
