M&P Serial number

Hello, new to the forum and I just bought my first Smith and Wesson M&P 9mm full size. I bought it used without the case so I don't know when the firearm was made. Serial DVD6XX1.

Date of manufacture

The SKU number will give you the date of manufacture. The first digit is the year with 2 = 2012, 3 = 2013, etc. The next numbers are the month with 07 = July. The last 3 numbers are the day of the year with 001 = January 1.

My SKU number matches the test fire date. For all intents & purposes the test fire date will be right on or very close to the date of manufacture. I suppose a weekend or holiday could throw that off by a day or two.

Unfortunately I did not get a box at all so I do not have access to the original SKU. Any other way to find out? Or can I just email S&W with my serial # and they will tell me?

Probably, but unless you want to listen to "muzak" for a half an hour, sending them an email would be easier. (unless you like muzak)

I'm sorry I didn't catch the fact that you got the used M&P without the box. I don't suppose you got the fired casing with it either. Then contacting S&W seems to be your only way. If you wait long enough maybe there'll be someone here that has an M&P9 with a serial number close to yours & at least put you in the ballpark.

If this helps any I have an M&P40 full size with a serial number of DSS8*** that's about 4-5 years old.

Ok got some information back from S&W and my serial number left their facility/factory on 11/11/10. Coincidentally my birthday is 11/11.

On a similar note, one of my other brands' serial numbers is made up of my Initials and the year I graduated HS.
... And it rolled off the line during my Birth Month.
