M&P Shield 9 garbage wish I hadn't bought

nrm, saying something is garbage then asking

for help is really not the way to do it.

Let me relate something to you. I'm a semi pro photographer and have been "shooting" for a long time, probably 400,000 + clicks.

With that being said most every lens I've bought ($10,000 in lens and counting) I was never really happy with anyone..... till I shot and shot it. In other words the more I shot it the better it got, amazing isn't it? Nikon and Smith and Wesson in general make pretty good products...

So when I see the old this is garbage complaint (here or on a photography forum) I take it with a grain of salt....

If you want to sell your gun go ahead, but I think if you spend some time with it.... you will be amazed at just how much better it will get.

best,

D

Took the gun in today...
...our friend who owns the gun shop... ...confirmed that there was without a doubt an issue with the gun...
He gave us the full refund for the pistol on the spot...

We are now on post #122.
The OP got rid of the gun. He got a second opinion and the gun was confirmed to have a problem. His LGS accepted a return on the gun & refunded his money.

Seems like we're beating a dead horse here. Just sayin'. ;)

Good to hear it, there was no way I was reading through all those posts.

Bad products can happen, for instance. A Mercedes Benz I bought a few years ago was the worst car I've ever owned. It would take a very long list to detail all the problems I had with it before I gave it away on Craigs List... (sold for parts).

So yes lemons do happen... :)

Just got a Shield last week, have other M&Ps, other pistols. The Shield is a bitch to rack! Is that because S&W is lawyer proofing the gun? I like the size/fit, it is to replace a Colt Mustang Pocketlite. The Colt is easy to operate, light controls. Ammo is expensive these days, should we be expected to fire a thousand rounds to have a pistol we can rely on? Should all our new pistols have to go to gunsmiths to be brought to a standard that was the norm 20-30 years ago?

I came late to plastic guns, I'm 60+, thank you BHO for making me buy more guns . . . . not.

I was reprimanded on the M1a/M14 site for asking for better grammar/spelling, this site seems to appeal to better educated users. But. . .. CAFM, are we not men? Just quit the "lol" ****! Make a statement and stand by your words, let your girlfriends pepper their texts with that ****.

Several people have nailed it on the head...you have to use the gun properly in order for it to work. That means pull the slide fully back and let it go. Mine works 100% fine when I do this, if I ride the slide I can get every single gun I own to stick out of battery, not just the shield.

Address the problem of your wife's strength and technique don't blame the gun for her problems.

This guy gets it right. Use it properly and it's a nonissue. If I ride the slide on just about any of my semi autos they would fail to fully return to battery. Not a gun issue but operator error.

Wow, you add alot to the conversation.

Just wanted to post my experiance with the new M&P shield 9. I bought my girlfriend for Xmas. It took months for me to locate one of these ever since we saw it online she wanted it. I bought just in time for Xmas and put it under the tree.

All was good until she started loading the snap caps into battery. It was then we found an issue with the slide failing to return fully forward and go into battery with a snap cap. It stopped about 1/4 of an inch from returning to fully forward. I tried it with different bullets and it did the same. I took it apart and cleaned it and oiled it up. Same issue. If you fully pulled the slid back as far as it would go and let it slam forward it would return fully. If you did it any other way or let it go not fully back it would bind up. We took it out and shot it and it shot ok but half the time cocking it the thing bound up.

Dissapointed I went online and saw similar people had the same issues. I called Smith and Wesson and talked to the lady in the warranty dept. She was snippy and rude from the get go. She basically told me that unless it was binding up when shooting it was for us to deal with. None of my other guns have this issue and I wish I had not bought this gun we are so dissapointed we will NEVER buy another smith and wesson. In good faith I cant even sell it to someone knowing that it does not perform correctly. I am going to return it to the store and take whatever they give me for it. They made it seem like with the lifetime warranty we were all set when they sold us the gun covered for any issues. We have shot 50 rounds through this gun and it is useless. Smith and Wesson service is a scam in my opinion.

Any one have any other ideas? Thanks

no....no other ideas...seems you have thought this through

I made the mistake of reading this Thread because I have a Shield on order for my wife. She currently has a M&P 9 and a Glock 19. She wants a smaller pistol for a purse.
I wanted to know if maybe I should reconsider the Shield.
The problem of strength being required for charging a semi auto pistol is well known, there are certain pistols that require more strength than others.
My wife cannot charge my SIG's and the M&P 9 was actually the easiest of all.
But the problem with the Original Post was the Title and attitude of the Poster.
The buyer is NOT always right and I suspect your attitude was communicated in the tone of your voice over the phone to the S&W rep.
The pistol according to your Posts functions normally.
Snap caps are NOT designed to demonstrate the functionality of a pistol and in fact should not be used at all.
The fact that the user does not have the strength to properly operate the Shield is her problem and the 'Persons with Disability ACT' makes no such requirement needed.
The Shield stays on order for my wife but I had to read through this entire miserable Thread to make that decision.
Next time I will disregard ANY Post from the OP.-Dick

It is readily apparent to me that the problem is Nazis and Hitler.

Thread over. :D

What the heck?? A new guy brings a zombie thread back to life and now people are bashing each other...

Did we all wake up on the wrong side of the bed? :p

In response to the S&W person being rude. My Model 65 was perfect. My M&P 40c is perfect. Oh, I've never called them! So nevermind..

Why must we saddle a dead horse?

The person responsible for bringing this dead post back is like a person who can't leave a pile of manure alone. No you got to stir it up real good for others to enjoy the aroma.
