Yes, you read that right. Friend of mine has a Shield with TWO barrels, one 9mm, one 40S&W. Same slide, same springs, no other changes. Outside dimensions of the barrels appear the same.
Just pull out one barrel and drop in the other. Both seem (to me) to fit perfectly.
It's all in a S&W Shield box and all of it appears to be from S&W, with cutouts in the foam filler.
But I can't find anything about it on the S&W website, or any place else, for that matter.
Anyone else seen this?

Update from youtube. A presenter has a .40 Shield into which he put an unmodified 9mm barrel. He fires a magazine full without problem. I can't tell which magazine he uses.
He says the substitution works that way, but the 40 barrel will not fit the 9mm Shield. With calipers he shows that the portion of the barrel hood behind the caliber marks, where the "witness hole" is, is wider on the 40, hence the reason it won't fit in the 9mm. He notes the 9mm barrel is a little loose, laterally, in the 40 frame, but worked fine for him.

Now I'm REALLY looking forward to examining my friend's gun. I can't imagine S&W considering that an acceptable fit. Could it be that both barrels are particular to that gun, with the same width? Or, maybe the 9mm barrel has been made a little wider, again, particular to that gun. According to the youtube demonstrator, all other dimensions between the 9mm and 40 guns are identical.

I wish he'd hurry up and send me a pic!

Has anyone had issues with their M&P Performance Center Shield's ported barrel, specifically the muzzle blast blowing off the front sight post of your after market sights?

Yes, many of us first buyers of the Shield 40S&W did this several years ago. Just got a 9MM barrel. Mags work for both. :)

Yep, I've put my wife's 9mm Shield barrel in my 40 Shield. I used the 9mm mags since I already had them anyway. No problems.

I think what happens when we do this is that those two flat areas either side of the cartridge witness hole are pressed hard against the flat of the breech by the recoil spring, centering the barrel.

I've got about 800 9mm through my 40c, zero malfs, yeah, yeah it's probably stupid.

I used to have a Beretta 96 .40 that I dropped a 9 mm barrel in when I wanted to shoot cheap. Worked fine even with the 96 mags. Lip spacing on the mags miked out the same on both 92 and 96.
