OK, first off, I know nothing about them, and there are a lot of choices out there. I would prefer green over red

I want to put a rail on a Ruger MK4 and shoot targets to 50 yards.

Within reasonable cost, what should I be looking at

Thanks

Well you can buy a ruger mk4 with out the rail Tandemkross makes a mount that will work for a number of pistol optics . Now the brand of dot optic you buy is up to whay appeals to you and your wallet !

I beleave when holoson first offered a green dot I ordered a 407C-gr x2 for a future CC 9mm pistol and since have ordered 2 more of them as my wife likes the green circle dot option too. But a few years later there are other makers that offer green dot optic so but what you may want of a carry handgun down the road or one that fits your wallets need best since the slide on a mk4 does not move it well be easy on the dot optic .

We have a ruger early ruger 22/45 model with weigand rail base mount on it and a low cost " cheap " 3moa enclosed dot on it for years . Since there is not slide movement to beat up a cheap dot optic its been very reliable and fun and save you some money so go to amazon and see what you find for a great price .

I recently bought a Cvlife scope for a 22mag and found it to be far better than the price would let you think it could be . This brand also has several single lens red/green dot optics on amazon too .

"I want to put a rail on a Ruger MK4 and shoot targets to 50 yards."

Typically, I would not be shooting my pistols at 50 yards.
I don't recall the last time I tried a 50 yard shot with one of my pistols.
Next time we are at the outdoor range, I will try a 50 yard shot.

If I WERE going to shoot a pistol at 50 yards, I would buy this:

For sighting the 10X on an 18"x24" silhouette paper target at 50 yards I want a 1 MOA dot.

That's just my worthless opinion. :giggle:

First off, dump the rail.....

swapped reddots this afternoon, and shot steel to 100 yards.... 8" gongs at 15, 30, 50, and a silhouette at 100. Put the dot on the 'head' of the target at 100, and all hits drop right into the chest.....
