M & P Shield Popularity

I have been interested in a M&P Shield, but it looks like their in high demand not bad for a gun just introduced in March. I was leary about buying another polymer gun after all the slack from non believers in polymer guns. I have a SW99 with no complaints from me

Yes, the Shield is very popular, and for good reason I'm sure. One has yet to find its way into my stable. Some day. Once I was able to get over the whole "plastic" thing, I've blossomed into quite the fanatic.

The Shield has done remarkably well in a market where there were already so many choices: LC9, Nano, PPS, Solo, Kel-Tecs, Kahrs, Diamondback, etc, etc.

The Shield so far seems to be, at least on the average, much more reliable than other subcompacts. Also, I felt that S&W paid very close attention to QC on the first run of Shields that went on sale after the announcement. That really helped them get the gun off to a good start.

There have been a few issues such as the 40 dropping the magazines, but overall it has done well. I do have to say S&W could have been a bit more progressive at resolving the mag drop issue though.

If your parents really named you Wes Smith I would think you would own every Smith and Wesson gun made.

You may want to check your genealogy to see if you can pick up a Should at no cost from uncle Smith.

All jokes aside the Shield is a very fine weapon and I have owned a Kahr and Nano and the Shield is the most reliable of the three.

The Beretta Nano is built very well like the Shield (Kahr plastic should say Fisher Price on it.) but cant handle 115 grain loads.

There were a lot of critics that thought S&W was late to the dance but when you build a more reliable CCW there will always be a demand late or not.

No that is not my name,but my great grandfather was O.W Ainsworth that did work for the Colt inspecting the Single Action Army revolver. The ones with his stamp are much sought after by collectors

I was lucky and picked up the Shield a few days after it was released so I have the 9mm. I hadn't purchased a S&W since my GF (now wife) picked me up a original Sigma from back in the day. I now own 11 from the M&P line if that tells you how much I liked my Shield.

I bought a Shield on Gun Genie the day they were released. When it came into my LGS, the owner asked me if I had been to the Shot Show. I said no, and he said it was his understanding that the initial release of the Shield on Gun Genie was for those who had reserved them at the Shot Show. I told him I just looked at Gun Genie the day they were announced, saw that they had some available (8, if I remember correctly) and immediately bought it. I fully expected to get a message that I was too late, it was an error, etc, but the transaction went through.

I saw a Shield in another local shop a few days later, and bought it for my wife (she was really making noises like she wanted mine!) We both like them very much, and I especially like that we can share magazines...although I prefer the 8 rounders and she likes the 7 rounders. Still, if we are ever in a gun battle together, we can share magazines and ammo.
