Well, I actually like the Shield EZ, but this is disconcerting. Another member posted last year, concerning the 9mm version:
PSA! Check your shield EZ for cracks on breech face
Now, a friend purchased a Shield9 EZ about two months ago. Less than 200 factory rounds later, the breechblock ("slide insert") cracked while firing at the range. Pistol also won't fire, so I guess that's good thing.
Back in the day.... SIG used a forged breechblock in cast/stamped slide in the classic P series, and I never saw a cracked breechblock in literally hundreds of guns firing hundreds of thousands of rounds.
The EZ appears to use a MIM breechblock in a cast slide. The pistol is marketed and sold as a defensive weapon. While any part of any manufacture can suffer a defect, cutting every last corner in a race to the bottom seems ill-advised in this case.
The owner is getting it repaired by S&W, and then selling it. Another S&W customer lost. Can someone please wake S&W up?
PS. Ignore the sledgehammer in the background, it played no part in the issue!
PPS. I'm not part of the Anti-MIM League. But if you are going to produce something non-traditional in MIM, do it right. In the above linked post, there is a pic of the MIM breechblock. The design looks weak.
