Came to my attention that the entire M&P striker assembly (for both full size & compacts) is about $10 and usually is available at Midway...

On the other hand, a GLOCK "factory firing pin" alone(!) ranges from around $30-40!. Then you get to start ***embling all the other component$!

What a deal!

I think those are the 1.0 strikers.

The 2.0 are available from MGW for $20

Last time I needed a striker for my M&P 1.0, I called S&W customer service, gave them my round count (around 6,000), and they sent one for free. However, that was a long time ago, so I don't know if they still have their striker-for-free policy. But it can't hurt to ask!

Why would you assemble spare parts fora GLOCK? They are not required as with the current polymer pistols from S&W.

Also you can either ship the pistol to GLOCK and all the internals get replaced for free. In the area, stop in to GLOCK and they rebuild your pistols front to back for FREE….

A GLOCK magazine goes bad? Send it to them and they replace it for FREE.

GLOCK is how S&W used to be customer service wise.

Shoot a barrel out in a GLOCK? It’s replaced for FREE…. Sorta like that tax preparation company, FREE, FREE, FREE, FREE!

Look you don’t like GLOCK, that’s fine. Don’t bash them forthe cost of “spare parts”! There’s a reason 75% of Leo’s use them along with a preponderance of special ops troops use them.

If needs be, it is quite convenient to have a spare part on hand (Uh, "in hand"?) if needed...

Things do break, occasionally, and sending a firearm off for repair and/or a parts replacement (non-withstanding whether is is FREE or not) means being without for an unknown period of time.

Not something that is always desirable or opportune, IMHO.

Thanks for the clarification re: the 1.0 vs. 2.0.

Shipping firearms these days is "iffy" at best. You may never see it again and then get to try to recover the cost ... taking time and $$$.

Well, Rick, only having a G19 (Gen 4) and a G17 (Gen 2) plus the clone I just finished assembling on a SCT 19 frame, it might be a bit of a stretch to presume that I "don't like GLOCK"...?

My original comment had more to do with the reasonable price and availability of a complete factory M&P spare striker assembly for my 3 (1.0!) S&Ws, compared to what compiling all the various separate GLOCK parts would entail.

More of a compliment for the M&Ps than a critique of the GLOCKs

No joking, I have almost enough spares to build an M&P 1.0. No spare frame though.

I didn't start out planning to buy spares. It came over the years of buying something from on online source (like Midwayusa, Brownells, MGW, etc.) and while scrolling around come across parts that were on sale or just really cheap. Since I'm already paying for shipping, adding a few extras only cost the price of the extras.

I've also done some upgrades like a 5" Ported CORE slide kit for my FS. So I still have the 4.25" slide/barrel.

Once I came across a site selling all of the 2.0 backstraps so I bought one each of the 4 sizes in each color (Black, FDE) plus the matching grip tools for like $20. I was buying some other stuff and needed a few things more to get free shipping. So with the shipping offset, the backstraps were nearly free.

I probably have the most spares for my M&P 1.0 Fullsize. My M&P 9C a close 2nd due to the parts compatibility. My Beretta M9 is likely next in line with my P320 close behind.

Again, not planned but I've had these for nearly 10 years (almost 9 on the 320). So a part here, a part there adds up to a lot of parts after a while.

Don't even get me started on my Jeep!!
