Just picked this up today. I believe it was unveiled at SHOT Show a couple months ago, but they aren't overly easy to find.

Its honestly the finest pistol I've seen from Smith & Wesson since the old Performance Center shut down. It features all stainless steel construction, a steel magwell, a tuned 3lb aluminum trigger, a threaded on comp, night sights, a fluted barrel, and a purple-blue PVD finish on the accents, which I think looks great. Weight is 42oz with an empty magazine. Price was $1700 OTD, which isn't cheap, but certainly inline with Walther's steel frame PDP Match. While its hard to match the Walther's quality, this M&P comes close and also offers more standard features.

Please enjoy the pics...

Cause it’s a threaded on comp, Jim

Strike Industries makes it

Have you fired this bad boy yet? I just put a down payment on one at my LGS and cannot wait to get it. This is the most excited I've been to pick up a new gun since I picked up my PC SD40.

I’m just biding my time.. sooner or later, this will find its way home to me as well. I’m liking everything they did to this, from the finish to the finally… aluminum trigger shoe AND Steel body.

Hard to find, and yep… some online retailers are gouging. When the time is right, it’ll be right. Let us know how you like this pistol.

FWIU, they're only making 5,000 of this particular steel frame variant, but it wouldn't shock me if a carry focused variant comes along later.

Some retailers are selling them for MAP ($1499). If you're ready to move, I can message you some links.

Just picked mine up last night. As new, seller picked it up and immediately ran into financial difficulties (called a wife.) I got it with a little trading and cash for right at 1K. Going to try it out this evening. The moment I saw pictures of it I just had to have it.

Yes, it's threaded to the barrel, and can be removed and replaced with an included thread protector. Or a suppressor mounted instead.

Mine arrives tomorrow. Found a great deal, dealer sold me one at cost and very good shipping price. If I can get to my FFL in time/it arrives on time, I’ll be hitting the range first thing Saturday AM. If not, it’ll be next week sometime. It’s up against some pretty stiff competition in my target bag, but I’m looking forward putting it’s through it’s paces.

It's not going to replace my XC of Sand Hawk, or even a G34 w/ Timney trigger, but it is a nice shooter. The blue on the my barrel hood has a little wear already. I popped the comp off, shot it suppressed at first and it ran great. That's mostly why I bought it. So many guns have non-threaded pinned compensators and I just wanted a nice 9 to suppress. Lots of other options, but the Spec just feels great and I love my regular poly M&Ps and the one other Metal full size.

I shot mine for the first time today and was underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful gun, and the steel frame feels great. The underwhelming part is the compensator. Having a 9mm 2011, a .38 Super and a 10mm with compensators on them, this one is little more than a barrel weight. I had my suspicions when I noticed that the gun has a standard weight recoil spring.
And just a heads up, it's not mounted for regular use from the factory, but just set in place. There is actual mounting hardware (nylon screws and locktite) included should you decide that you want to run it with the comp.

Below you will find 3 targets all shot at 15 yards as the gun comes out of the box. First target was fired with 5 rounds of CCI Blazer aluminum 115 gr. The second with 5 rounds of LAX 115 gr. Reman ammo. The third was 50 rounds of the LAX rapid fire. All groups shot left of poa which is normal for me and my eyesight, even though the sights are very easy to see. Over 200 rds total there were 0 malfunctions.

While the trigger is nice, and the accuracy is good when the comp. isn't bouncing around on the end of the barrel, and the weight of the steel frame softens the recoil impulse, and it holds 23 rounds in the mag, and it looks absolutely killer doing it all..., it's just not THAT much of an improvement over my stock M&P9 2.0 to justify the cost IMO. Mine will most likely be back on the market soon, which sucks because I really wanted to love it.

Dvus, remove the compensator, see if it shoots correctly.
I was talking to Beju via PMs, he mentioned with the comp his shot to the left side. He drifted his front sight…and it came back, but removing the compensator, it was off to the right.

I’m wondering if my comp will be on tight or…if it’ll have to be locked down. That’s a good tip, I’ll be sure to take a look at that one.

dajogejr, the comp. may or may not contribute to the shooting left, but every gun shoots left for me out of the box. I could shoot any of your guns that you have dialed in, and it will shoot left for me. I've given up and accepted it, and adjust my sights accordingly. If I remove the comp. It will still shoot left, just maybe not as much. For everyone else, that is a great piece of information to have. I CAN tell you that when the comp is loose group size triples.
