I'm 99.9999% sure you'll be good to go. Head spacing on AR 15's isn't nearly as much an issue as it is with some other types of guns because of the way it is designed.

You can probably get away without a headspace check. That's not the proper way to do it. Hey, it's your rifle & body, risk them any way you want to. You ain't getting top quality parts for that price.

The alleged advantages of the full auto bolt carrier are exaggerated. If you think the extra ounce or so is that important, a heavier buffer is cheaper and less likely to bite you.

I was just looking for a spare BCG to have on hand. I can't find the number or a website that sells S&W M&P BCGs and Palmetto seemed reasonably priced. If you have a link to somewhere I can buy an M&P BCG that would be great.

What makes you think you need a spare BCG? How many rounds do you intend to put through your Sport?

Spare parts tend to grow into another rifle, as they sit unused.

I like redundancy and it will grow into another rifle eventually but I want compatability with my existing rifle.

At the prices I'm seeing some clean, used Sports for right now, you might should just consider getting an entire spare rifle, right off the bat. You can't get much more 'compatibility' than that ! ;)

Not trying to be a jerk but really curious for you spare parts guys.... How many bolts do you keep for your other firearms? How many spare parts do you have for your daily carry firearm?

I fully understand competitors keeping things like a spare bolt, but not the casual shooter.

Please note that headspace is something characteristic of each rifle, not each brand. An S&W BCG would need to have headspace checked just like one from PSA.

Thanks for all the unhelpful replies.

Trying to help you realize that you are planning to spend money on something you don't need isn't helpful?

You bought a Sport... probably because it was an inexpensive rifle with a warranty from a well known manufacturer. If it breaks, you send it in for repair.

Seriously, if you don't stockpile spare parts for any other firearm that you own, why would you start doing it with an AR-15? I can understand if you are shooting competitively and a broken firing pin can cause you to loose out on some big money prize. Or maybe you are on the hunt of a lifetime... but in both of those scenarios, you probably have a different rifle than the M&P 15 Sport!

I'd be more concerned about the inexpensive optic that I put on top of my Sport failing over the bolt.
