M&P Sport II quandry

LGS has a fathers day sale on S&W. They got the Sport II on sale for $489. I need it like another hole in my head but at this price. I already have an original Sport with the 5R barrel that I have added some farkels to. I might set this one up for longer ranges because I have never shot a more accurate rifle of this type and set the Sport II up for closer range blasting. What the heck. "It's a good deal honey and it's fathers day"' Wonder if that will work?

That's a pretty good deal.

If you don't really "need" one though, maybe wait and find a used one listed in your area. I've seen them going for less, and you can save the sales tax as well.

The presidential election has put some pretty good deals on the market, especially in the private sector.

While we will still see low prices for a while, the Sports for $389 or so are a come on and they are not something I would wait for if I were to purchase another M&P Sport. I would buy the one you are looking at and get it over if you are sure you want a second one if the price you are comfortable with. My two Sports when purchased were over $700 with the NICS fee, dealer fee and sales tax. I don't regret buying them.

Fully agree. I think at just under $ 400 I'm not sure they'll get any cheaper.....and are a pure steal at that price. I too paid just over $700 for my non 1:8 5R and I don't regret it at all. Heck, that was cheap for when I bought it as we were just coming off the evil black gun craze.

I like my sport II, never had an issue with it. But I couldn't see ever buying a second one, to many other options out there to have two of the same rifle IMO.

I have a Nikon scope on one, and a Bushnell red dot on the other. Same gun, two different uses, one for distance, one for in close HD.

If you use good QD mounts you can swap optics and not lose your zero.

My sport II has and aimpoint pro and a nikon p233 that I alternate at the range. (Carbine)

My Daniels Defense M4V11PRO has an 18" barrel and I switch between a Vortex Viper 6.5x20-44mm scope and a Vortex SPARC AR. (Rifle length gas)

My 16" BCM has an EOTech 3-0 and a G33 Magnifier so it's dual purpose at the flip of the magnifier. (Mid length gas)

My BCM/KAC/DD 9" 300 Blackout pistol build just has the Aimpoint T1 and MBUIS, because it's a pistol and a red dot is all it needs. (pistol length gas)

I do realize that I can use QD mounts, but I like the idea of having 2 in case one has a major failure. That's my excuse for having 2 and I'm sticking by that story .

So is it better now to by another pre-built as close as the specs you want as possible and go from there ?? Or wait hoping parts will start to drop to build one ??

Your call for sure. Location (to a supplier) can have a huge impact on it.

For example...I can swing by PrimaryArms while visiting my kid in Houston. They are a mile up the road. I can pick up an Anderson lower for 30 bucks and a dab of tax. They transfer and no shippin. Normally (you) would have 49 bucks + shippin + 25 FFL (or so)

Then you surf by DeltaTeamTactical and pick up a kit for 219-239 and a bit of shippin.

I can literally be into an AR for around the 250 mark.

Palmetto has good prices
Tacticalstuff also (you gotta change "stuff" to that other word)
Brownells throws crazy pricing up sometimes.

Saw M&P Sport II's at Palmetto for 399 the other day. They sold out in less than an hour

That's not really a question I should be answering. And I say that because there's an element of "self-satisfaction" from having assembled it yourself that may be very valuable to you. If it is, then you should consider going the homebuilt route.

Personally, I look at it this way:

• Ignoring the considerable value of being able to say "I built it myself" which can easily be enough to make the decision.
• There is generally little, if any, price advantage to building a rifle yourself as opposed to buying it.
• Factory rifles like the S&W M&P-15, Ruger 556, Springfield Saint, etc. all come with robust warranties.
• Most of the parts vendors I've seen attach no specific warranty to their parts (beyond the implied warranty required under state law).
• So, if the factory-built rifle has a problem, it is a matter of sending it back for repair.
• On the other hand, if your home-built rifle has a problem, it is up to you to properly diagnose the problem and then repair it - buying the parts yourself if necessary.

So, when it comes to ARs, I buy fully assembled guns from reputable manufacturers who are willing to stand behind their products; often for life.

What good quality QD mounts do you recommend that won't lose zero? I've had mixed results in the past doing this.
I have a Vortex Spitfire 3X prism scope on my M&P Sport 2 optics ready and would like to also use a 4X14 power good quality scope for precision shooting, but would like it to hold an absolutely perfect zero, when switching back and forth. Is it possible? Before you laugh at using this gun for precision shooting, I had borrowed 3X9 Nikon on it and shot several groups of half minute of angle with it. I still can't believe I got that lucky, with this gun.
