Hey all,

I just completed the trigger job following the PDF Dan has posted on his site. I know it's not the same as HIS trigger job but they are really good instructions.

I smoothed the back of the sear and where it contacts the trigger bar with a file as well as smoothed the trigger bar where it contacts the sear and where it contacts the striker block using a DREMEL.

I'm SOOOO pleased with this. Just smoothing out those two spots on the trigger bar helped SSSSOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! I use to feel grit when it would touch the striker block and wanted to buy a USB but tried this first. It's just how I wanted it.

For those who try to take out the front slide block...there is a small wire holding the take down lever in place. It's really small and if you're like me and lose it....the trigger bar will want to fall out when you take the slide off. I'm going to contact S&W and see if they'll send me a new one. Other than that the gun works fine. I'd shot probably 500-1000 rounds with this gun before touching anything. It's also the first time I've attempted this. Keys were going slow, checking progress and testing it as I went along. Trigger pull feels smooth and only one little grit spot but I'll live. It reminds me of a SIG SAUER just not as hard of a pull.

Have you checked the trigger pull weight?

I did a 45 c and it went to 6 lbs
From 8 ish

I did the DIY burwell, but only slightly polished the face of the sear

I may polish it a bit more to get to 5 lbs

No, I don't have a trigger pull weight checker. Guess I should have It checked. What is a good/best trigger pull weight considered by most?

I haven't checked the trigger pull. It's smoother throughout and it eliminated the grit feeling when the trigger bar was moving the striker block. It might be a half pound lighter but I don't really know. I never checked the trigger before. Guess I didn't think about it. I'll find a fishing scale and check it. Thought never crosses my mind.

Google M&P Trigger Job and you'll see a PDF as the second link. It's pretty old but it's still really good information.

I did the Burwell online trigger job to mine which made a nice improvement to my M&P45c. You can't even tell the trigger's moving til it breaks at 4.5lbs.
You can make a homemade trigger gauge with a coat hanger and a plastic container. Hang the container from the trigger and add weight till the trigger breaks, then weigh the container, wire and contents on a postage scale. It's not pretty but purty cheap.

Did either of you actually cut the sear?

It looks like they cut one side down
on the powerpoint

Which side do you cut?

The biggest reduction comes from reducing the hump on the back of the sear. Use some 1500grt finishing paper with some light oil on a flat surface to reduce the hump. Whatever you do don't totally eliminate it. I didn't reduce the engagement surface which is the top of the sear.

I will try to reduce the hump

I am also going to redo an SKS trigger as well
(great Youtube videos on that)

Just need some time...... this job thing keeps getting in the
way of me playing with my guns...LOL

I reduced the hump as well. Nowhere NEAR as much as on the PDF. I just rounded it more and made it so I could roll a file 270 degrees and around the sharp corners and called it good. I don't have a stone and didn't feel like buying one for this project. I'm not sure how much more of a difference it would make to smooth it out with a stone but then again...I'm not a gunsmith.

For the trigger bar...mine had some indentations from being used and moving the sear. I just smoothed it out about 95% and it's good to go. I think smoothing the part that contacts the striker block made the biggest improvement.

I got a trigger job done by a local dealer/smith in my area. He machines the sears himself. My pull is less than that of the pro series. I am guessing it is between 3 and 3.5Lbs.

I'm not sure of the pull strength but I had a chance to put a magazine through this and it feels just as good dry firing as it does live firing. No more grit from the striker block. It's still a long pull but it's light enough for me to keep my mentality on squeezing and not "ok it's about to fire"

I'm happy with it. I didn't even bring it to a mirror finish. Just filed it and did as good as I could with a Dremel and some Turtle wax polishing compound.

Dan Burwell put a 4.5 pound trigger in my M&P9 a couple of years ago. Absolutely wonderful trigger!

The M&P trigger and disconnector both rely on the trigger bar slipping under the sear during reset and after a year I found the reset to be not positive enough. Apex Tactical Duty//Carry spring set added 3/4 pound to the trigger and made the reset much better.

I did a Burwell trigger job on mine and it brought the pull weight down from 6.5 to just over 4lbs.
