So I recently picked up a vtac in 9 and just like my friends 9 pro series the take up before the break in the trigger is very gritty feeling. I also have a shield but it has the APEX trigger kit and is buttery smooth. I have looked this subject up on the forum and saw mostly shield questions about grittyness but what I want to know is will the AEK trigger fix the "grit" https://apextactical.com/store/product-info.php?pid60.html or will I need the FSS to get rid of that? Thanks in advanced

The trigger won't affect the "grit". The grit feeling comes from where the trigger bar rides up the striker block. The FSS and Trigger kit is what I used https://apextactical.com/store/product-info.php?pid70.html but you could polish either the bar or the striker block if all you were interested in doing was getting rid of the "grit". I didn't do any modifications to my 9c and the grittiness eventually went away. You can tell that the gritty feeling is in the striker block by pulling the trigger when the slide is off, no gritty feeling then.

I just removed the slide and you are very right, does the trigger kit work on the VTAC I think i read somewhere that the sear block is different and some of the Apex kits wont work. Thank you very much btw

the FSS trigger will work in the VTAC. It's the RAM that won't due to the sear housing block.

The cheapest way to fix the gritty feel you're talking about is to smooth the trigger bar.

The stock striker block has a sharp edge that the trigger bar contacts. Because the trigger bar is a stamped part, the edge is not smooth. If you sand the angled part of the trigger bar where it contacts the striker block, the gritty will go away.

I use a piece of emory cloth and followed with 600 grit. Mine is now silky smooth.

I just polished my trigger bar with a Dremel, buffing pad and some headlight restorer. The takeup is buttery smooth now. This is easily done if you remove the trigger assembly, trigger bar and slide stop. You can take it a step further by installing an Apex Ultimate Striker Block for $35.

The gritty feeling is definitely caused by the trigger bar pressing the plunger that disengages the striker block.
