First hi I am new here, but not new to firearms and the shooting sports....:)

So I have been shooting and building AR-15s for around 6yrs now my first AR was a M&P15T love them, but I always wanted a 308 AR-10 platform rifle and now I have a M&P10. I feel like S&W hit a home run with this rifle especially in the lower receiver, but not so much in the upper. I am in the process of installing a free float hand guard and I had a hell of a time trying to drive out the gas tube roll pin. I broke three roll pin punches used heat and couldn't get the roll pin to move an inch. So I ended up taking a angle grinder with a cutting wheel and cut the gas block off the tube I did grind into the gas tube just a little I thought I ruined it so I ordered another one from S&W, but after looking at it closer I just barely nicked it. Anyway finally getting to my question has anyone else had trouble driving out the gas tube roll pin?

Someone said they are directional. Tap out easy one way!

Cannot recall which way!

Yea I thought about if the pin was tapered I tried hitting it from both sides and I couldn't find any info or YouTube videos on it.

t is just a 5/64 roll pin 1/4 long.It is not tapered .Did you use a real roll pin punch or a regular punch? On my rifle, the pin was damaged from the factory and one end was mushroomed.

I used a roll pin punch with the little "bump" on the end made for driving roll pins. I don't know....... its all good now got it back together and its working great now.

If you have a bench block (little blue looking hockey puck thing from Brownells with cutouts for the FSP or barrel) then the pin comes out real easy. Good cheap investment to keep on hand for rifle work. Just my $.02

Having same roll pin issue. Was going to just order a new tube.. but was just told by their S&W CS they won't sell them to the public. He also told me to try eBay lol. How did you get it ordered from smith?

Same problem here and my punch pin broke off in the hole so now I'm going to have to cut my gas block the same way. What part number did they give you? They set their phones to just roll back to the main menu today so it will probably be Monday before I can call but I have found that unless you have the part number your odds of getting real help with their proprietary parts are pretty poor.

I bought the Armalite Carbine Gas tube as suggested here, and it is 1/4" longer then the stock gas tube. Is this what others here that are using it have? I mounted it and it seems like the bolt isn't hitting or rubbing it at all, but I want input from others. Thanks
