I am getting ready to purchase my first 308 AR. I have narrowed it down to the M&P10 or the DPMS GII AP4. I will be using the rifle for hunting and target shooting, with probably no more than 50-100 rounds per year. I want to move to a semi-auto because the recoil on my bolt action makes it unpleasant to shoot. I have an M&P15 that I really like and has not given me any problems. I can get the DPMS for about $150 less than the M&P. I am not interested in the more expensive 308 ARs.

I know this is a S&W forum, but you guys are pretty honest in your opinions. Which of these two should I pick? I appreciate your time and inputs. Thanks!

Both fit the bill for light weight out of the box. If you are looking to customize, neither is the best option as most aftermarket parts are geared towards the DPMS LR-308 (call it Gen I) pattern.

Thank you for your reply. That is something I had not considered.

I am FAR FAR from an M&P 10 expert but I understand the M&P 10 to be DPMS-308 patterned. The few parts I've order for mine (Troy rail/barrel nut/charging handle, etc.) have been DPMS-308 style.

Thank you for your reply and input.

I have done more research, and would like to know if any of you have any experience with the Diamondback DB10. Thanks!
