M&P15-22 Mag development

I know you put a smiley on it, but those are two different weapon systems, both of which use double stacked .22 rounds, something someone said was impossible.

Uh, that's NOT QUITE what was said, thank you. :)

I agree, but if he makes a successful double-stack that will be quite an accomplishment. I've never seen a successful .22 double-stack because the rims in the two stacks interfere with each other.

Yes Sir I had a big smile on my face when I shot the first prototype. It took me 2 weeks to design it and get a prototype. I've shot 1500 rounds with 2 mags and Trust me it is fun spending more time shooting instead of reloading.

Great looking drawings. I would be in for some. Black or camo would be my flavor. Let us know when ready. I will volunteer my services for BETA testing.

No problem I will let everyone know when its time. I have 2 people on this forum that will Beta test. I may decide to go with 2 more that way I can receive more feed back to improve on the design.

I just want in on the final product. I'll take a beta test if you are giving them away, but I REALLY want the final product.

I'm of the opinion that if Eric can pull off a functional, compact, 50-round, double-stack magazine for the 15-22 at a reasonable price, he will kill the sales of the extended-capacity magazines from ProMag, Plinker Tactical and especially the big, bulky drum from Black Dog.

ProMag is also making a 50-round drum but as far as I know, it's only for Ruger's 10/22 and lives up to the reputation of ProMag's metal magazines.

Hurry up, will ya? I'll volunteer to be a beta tester!

Operates yes, but design I believe is where the legalities start. I'm making an educated guess here. I'm not entirely sure how the whole patent thing works. but if it at all resembles copyright law then you can have a mouse character, it just can't look exactly like Mikey Mouse.

Example: Plinker and NDZ both make an after market 15-22 charging handle, however if you look at them side by side they are designed differently. It might be miniscule but they are different. Do the Pro-Mags and Plinker Mag's look exactly like a S&W mag? No. I'm going to wager that with submitted designs, he can have a magazine follower that functions the same as the others, it just can't be designed the same way if there is a patent on that particular piece.

Or he is just trying to design it different for the sake of being different and it's not working out as planned.

People were always pushing me to file for a patent with the dust covers I made for the 15-22, but I always sort of figured, it's been invented already, it's not new and unusual.

I'm sure I'm not completely accurate here, someone please correct me if I'm giving bad info here. I just tend to look at it with the understanding that if it's proprietary, then it's protected.

Majorlk; The PT magazine they sent me operates exactly the same way as does the S&W.[/QUOTE said:
Did it? I thought you reported that it functioned horribly and gave it away for free?

I take it there's some reason you can't do it the same way the others do?

Correct there is a patent on the S&W stock mag. The problem is the internal spring its not pushing the follower all the way up to stop the bolt. Simple adjustment

Yes it was horrible and I decided not to give it away but sent it back to PT. The rear of the follower was shaped exactly like the S&W follower. Since the magazine was a sealed unit, it was not possible to inspect the follower further.
