I've been shooting this rifle and find it to be hitting well right out of the box. Groups are within 1.75 and consistent. With some more experimenting with other ammo I'm sure tighter grouping will be poss. Anyone have advice as to what shoots best for them. I have used PMC 55 gr. and Hornandy 55 gr. black tip.

Welcome glad to have you, as far as ammo I cant really help although I have heard that Fiochi makes some great 5.56x45, I shot some commercial ammo when I first got my rifle but I do not remember what worked best. handloads or matchgrade should drop your groups by at least a half if not more!

I am not trying to hijack the thread but I have a question similar to the OP's. I think this question will help the OP out also at least a little. What weight bullet are yall getting the best groups with? I was thinking 55gr but wondering if any of the other weights would work just as well?

CJB223- Did you do a barrel break in? How many rounds do you have through it? Have you cleaned it with a good copper cleaner? Did you clean it before you shot it? Are you using a scope? 9X? Bench/sand bag? Have you checked everything twice to make sure it is tight? Most rifles do not start to shoot well till 200+ rds. A copper cleaner can turn an OK gun into a great shooter. Figured I would mention/question all the things I have forgotten to do over the 44 years and sat there wondering why my groups were not better. As for load and bullet weight I have no idea- I have a few AR's one is a one holer @100yds with ballistic tips, the next one is 3 sn #'s away, is LUCKY to shoot 1" with same ammo, same bench, same day, out of the same box????? So clean it again, check all screws/nuts/bolts, get a few rounds through it and try some other loads. My MP15 loves Federal ( TRU) Tactical Rifle Urban 55 gr, but hates federal goldmedal 69 gr sierra matchking?? Clean it again and try some other rds. Be Safe,

1.75 " aint bad, half a dozen posts before anybody asks at what range is pretty bad. My guess is 50yds.

Before I started reloading LC shot the best out of mine, but hand loads are the most accurate, at this time I'm playing with my load data for 55 grain bullets and have 1/2 in groups at 50 which I know I can improve on and keep distance as well.
25 grains of CFE223 at 50 and your almost shooting the same holes but past 100 yards and she drops very bad lol.

I can get 1.75 at 100 yds with federal 193 and a little better with the .223 walmart 100 pack. I started out the other day and put 4 bullets in the same hole (walmart) then opened the group to 3/4" (should have stopped there) LOL I am working on reloads following Oneyeopn and Rebs...they shoot some very nice groups and convinced me that hand loads are the way to tighten the groups. I bought the gear and have done a little experminting with it....but going away for 6 months to NZ so shooting and reloading are going to suffer for a bit. I find it fun a challanging to try to get where I want to be (one ragged hole) and my shooting is improving all the time. The sport is capable of very tight groups as some on here have proven with the targets. I was doing a one hole group until I spoiled it with the second shot LOL. Anyway welcome and your in good company here.

My friend purchased a M&P15 Sport and 500 qty of Federal 55 fmj from private seller last week. His first time ever handling a firearm! After a very thorough introduction to the AR, body positioning, etc., and covering every safety topic I set the targets up for him.
I know this thread is worthless without pics (sorry, was busy making sure no one went home with an extra hole), but out to 40 yards standing unsupported he put 3-shot groups inside a penny's diameter. Over and over, from 7 yards out to the 40 yard mark.
Maybe it was the firearm. Maybe it was the fact he's a vascular surgeon with steady hands, shallow breathing and exacting hand-eye coordination. He absolutely loves the M&P 15 Sport.

sport purchased in january, ~900 rounds, best 5 shot group at 100 yards is .651moa, with 55gr hpbt handloads, using 27.5gr CFE.
it is stated that 1 in 8 barrel will shoot up to 80gr bullets, have shot many 69gr and some 75gr, still smallest groups are 55gr.

I am shooting the 55gr. Win. FMJBT bullets in front of 26 grs. of CFE223 and I was surprised at the groups I'm getting. I sighted in at about an inch high at 100 meters and my sport groups these bullets as well as my Savage Police Tactical rife. They will punch one hole groups at 25 meters and about 1 inch at 50. They spread out a little over 2 at 100. Which is good enough for this type of weapon for me. I am going to load up some Hornady V-max's that I load for my Savage and see what it will do one of these days.

Sir I found out with a little higher load of the CFE223 that the groups tighten up a bunch and dont drop as far at 200yards.

According to their website the plain jane M&P15 gets the 1:9 Chrome Bore
That rules that one out for me, I do not like a chrome bore.
They had the S&W M&P 15 with a 400.00 eotech for 1299.00

I thought the sport was the "plain Jane" of the line and it has a 1:8 melonite barrel with 5R rifleing.

That came out wrong, the M&P15 with no other name or letter designator after it. That looks like the AR15A2 with the carrying handle is what I meant. "plain jane" really wasnt correct and I apologize cause it does have the dust cover and the forward assist. But it does have the 1:9 Chrome lined barrel. Please accept my apologies. I did not intend to disrespect your rifle!
