After thinking about building another AR for the last year I finally jumped into it with both feet when this assault gun ban talk started. Honestly the M&P lower was not my first choice, but beggars can't be choosers in this market. I know from past Smith & Wesson experience that this would be a solid platform to build from.

I will put together a parts list and edit this first post as I pick things up. Detail pics of how I put this together will be in this post.

Not sure how many of you are familiar with a Dissipator, but I will give a quick run down. The advantages of a true dissipator are the rifle length irons on a carbine (16") barrel, and the lighter recoiling of using a rifle length gas system. Some companies out there make a faux dissipator that hides a carbine or middy gas block and that helps with the cycling reliability that can be an issue with the rifle length gas, but negates the low recoil.

Most modern rifle length dissipators have an enlarged gas port. Many also use a heavier buffer as well.

Parts List

M&P15 stripped lower receiver
Delton Dissipator upper complete
MFT Battlelink Utility Stock
Magpul MOE Rifle length handguard
Magpul Gen 2 MBUS Rear Flip Sight
Spikes Tactical ST-T2 Buffer
Tapco Intrafuse AR End Plate
MagPul MOE Plus Pistol Grip
DPMS Lower Receiver Parts Kit
KNS Hammer and Trigger Pin Non Rotating Kit
J P Enterprises - Reduced Power Spring Kit
Magpul Enhanced Aluminum Trigger Guard
Magpul MOE Vertical Grip

Still a few more parts to figure out, but this is the bulk of the items. Everything on order and should be in shortly. Upper Assembly shows back ordered at MidwayUSA until 1/29/13.

Please feel free to chime in with any comments or advise. This is my first build of an AR, my last one was a DMPS that I added a bunch of stuff to over time. I am pretty familiar with building and modifying 1911's and Target pistols, along with 10/22's.

I started to color fill the receiver. Couple detailed pics below. I used paint markers for the fill. Will post up finished pics when I get home tonight.

can you explain how you use the paint marker

Start by shaking your paint marker. Second you blot the tip on some paper until your paint is flowing to the bottom of the tip. Next up you lightly press the marker into the spot you want to fill. You will be surprised how easily the paint flows. After you fill everything and let it dry, lightly wipe the surface with a cloth with lacquer thinner. Be careful not to make your white discolored by your red.

I used the Mr Clean Magic Erasure to give my paint filled markings very square sharp edges

I have not had that problem come up on the couple guns have colored. Might be an issue to just dunk the lower into thinner, but lightly rubbing it with a small amount on a cloth seems to not be an issue.

Just done right:eek:

That finish is pretty hard...the Mr Clean Erasure didnt touch it but it did make my paint job pop!! :D

Couple more pics. Cleaned up the paint on the lower. Also threaded the rear detent pin hole. This will keep that bugger from launching across the room upon disassembly.
