M&P15 VTAC FOR $1399...worth it?

A question is asked about the price and opinions of a VTAC... and it gets turned into yet another steel/brass bickering thread....

My question still stands. (Sorry; but no one has been able to answer it). The OP wanted to know if $1400 ($1399) was a good price for a VTAC. My question is/was/will be "Until someone answers it"; what is so special about a VTAC that makes the normal price in the $1400-$1900 range; worth approximately $1000 more than say the M&P15OR. Same barrel material; same receiver material; YES, it has a different stock and it has a 1:7 barrel instead of 1:9. And a nice pretty light. So, what is it that makes it "SO GOOD".

I bring this up because the OP wants to know if $1400 is a good price. If I can buy an OR for approximately $750; then other than the barrel, I can put on almost all of the same "Frills" for a lot less than $700 additional dollars. And with the OR, I don't have to put on things that the VTAC has that maybe I don't want.

Bottom line: I compare the specs on the 2; OR and VTAC. Except for the stock/forearm and the twist of the barrel, I can't tell what's "Better" about the vtac compared to say the OR. THEREFOR; it's almost impossible to say if the $1400 price for the VTAC is a good deal or not.

That is my question; asked for the 3rd time. I have to assume, that because no one has been able to show any considerable differences or advantages to spending so much more on the VTAC; that $1400 is NOT a good price for the VTAC. You'd be better off buying an OR and paying extra for the things you want on the rifle. You'll have the gun exactly the way you want it; and it will be much cheaper.

Maybe the gun is the way the OP wants it. I know I own an ORC and paid the low buck for it because it was the cheapest way to get a S&W, which was what I wanted. Now that I have put on the optics, changed the hand guards and a few other things... I am into it for over 2,000... that was a good deal.. Looking at what the VTAC has to offer... I like and would buy it if I had the money... The handguards are sweet, the sites are top notch, the barrel is a better barrel, I believe, not just a twist change. The bottom line I think is, if you weren't so cheap, if you had more money, you probably wouldn't be asking this question in this thread... and by the way, I can't afford, the Vtac nor is it legal to purchase in Mass.... if I take my ORC and bought the same parts, I'm not talking cheaper parts or different branded parts, I'm talking the same components to end up with the same Vtac gun.... can't afford it.... now maybe you can move along and buy some of that Tula ammo..I'll stick with my XM193.. To the OP: The VTAC is a nice looking rifle, and you found a good price. Yes you could save a couple hundred if you pieced it all together yourself from a base rifle. Guess what? I could have saved a couple thousand on my car if I'd spent hours and hours buying all the options I wanted and installing them myself. But time is money and I drove my car off the lot exactly as I wanted it. If you want all the features on the VTAC then go for it!

I'm not questioning whether the OP likes it or not. But the OP asked if it was "Worth it". I'm simply asking what does the VTAC offer? If you don't know what it has to offer, then you can't say if it's worth it. And please don't assume you know anything about me. You don't. Without going into details; there isn't a rifle made that I couldn't afford. Let alone something in the $1400-$1900 price range. But it's the OP is the one asking about money. I said from the very first post, that I was unfamiliar with the VTAC. I asked a simple question about what is it about the VTAC that makes it cost so much more money. No one has given an answer. Well; except for Dragon, but that doesn't count because they never have anything to do with the topic. And unfortunately; your answer is simply: "Maybe the gun is the way the OP wants it". Well; unfortunately, that doesn't say anything about the VTAC and what it has to offer either.

Ok Chris... you got it, I wasted 1\2 hour just for you... minimum $700 worth of upgrades. Now it's your turn, if you want more info, look it up and price out the parts. Bottom line here, it's worth it at $1399 - $1600, whatever the best price one can find. Since you got the dough.. maybe you can buy one, let me use it for a while, I got a couple thousand rds of XM I could fire through it..

The only part I wasn't sure about were sites, thought they had Troy sites, but I may be wrong. If I can find my way up to Smith & Wesson Retail Store, I'll double check, they had one on the shelf I was fondling last week..

I know nothing about a VTAC... but I know enough to answer a question without being so danged contentious.

This place is advertising VTAC at $1099 (sounds a bit low compared to everyone else. Maybe it's a mistake or?) Smith and Wesson VTAC 811012

Same question is frequently asked about the 15-22 MOE version. The answer is if you want a rifle in that specific configuration then it's probably a good way to go. If some of those ad-ons aren't exactly what you want then it's probably not the best way to go.

If this is your first AR then I'm guessing you probably don't yet know what you really want (sometimes it costs $thousands before you figure that out... and sometimes it is a lifelong search). And sometimes ya just wanna buy a VTAC and that's all that matters.
