Hello, all. I bought my first AR on Tuesday, which as the title implies, is an M&P15T. I'm wondering, though, if anyone knows how to remove the new free-float quad rail that S&W is using now. In the owner's manual it talks about how to get the Troy Industries rail off, but this isn't a Troy rail. All I've been able to find so far on the internet is a few vague references to the fact that S&W isn't using Troy rails and sights on the Tactical any more. If anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Did you get the T with the Magpul sights (811041)? If so, I believe the rail is a UTG Pro (it's at least similar-enough that I can't tell the difference looking at my UTG Pro and the 15T on Smith's site). There should be 4 bolts (2 on each side) on the back side of the barrel nut, facing toward the receiver. Unscrew these 4 and the fore end can be easily removed. Remember which bolts came from which holes - the longer ones go in the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.

The description of the rail at the S&W site says, "•10" Patent Pending, Anti-Twist, Free-Floating Rail". That leads me to believe it is proprietary and not a bin part. That said, there have to be screws used , at least to tighten it to the bbl. nut.

None of these parts require great mechanical knowledge to work with. Just be careful and note which screw came from where and DO NOT FORCE ANYTHING. You will probably not have a problem removing it. If you are removing it to clean the bbl., it really isnt necessary as applying a little lube through the holes in the rail and spreading it around with a q tip will prevent any rust that might get through the melonite. Frog Lube works really well for this as it migrates pretty readily all over where it is applied and actually treats the bbl. when heated.

Hope that is some help.
