Hello everybody. I think this is my first post, so welcome me with open arms.

I recently purchased an m&p22 as my first handgun. I think I bought it early this month a week after buying a 15-22. .22lr is such a fun round to shoot all day.

I'll be using the .22 to train and get comfortable with a handgun before I make the purchase and upgrade to a 9mm.

I've probably put about 1000 rounds through it within these first 3 weeks of owning it. The first thing I did though after cleaning was remove the thumb safeties. I wasn't happy with them at all, and they continued to get in my way.

After removing them I noticed **** getting into that newly opened spaced in the frame and quickly wanted to fill it with some sort of plug.

I disassembled the gun and removed the safety in it's entirety and jigged a replacement rod for it so the gun continued to function.

With my 3D printer, I printed up plastic plugs in PLA plastic to fill the hole. I am really happy with the results, and although the plastic is still white, I will be painting it to match the frame after I decide if I am going to be customizing the gun further than this.

Here are some photos of the finished product. I might sand the plugs a bit to make them perfectly flush, but for now, I am happy. If enough people are interested, I'll make a video or something explaining the entire process and what you'll need to do to remove the safety (not just the wings) and I can print out some plugs for others and send em out.

Anyways, expect to see more from me as I can not put this gun down (or my 15-22).

Sure thing! They take like 5 minutes to print. When ever you get the gun, or want the plugs, PM me.

That looks great! And with a 3D printer, I am sure your skills/services may come in handy... if you'd be interested in making a few bucks!

Ha I am sure. I am designing some 45 degree mounts for my 15-22, but PLA isn't as rigid as ABS.

Your safety plugs look great! For somebody who is new to handguns, I'd say you're jumping in with both feet.:D

I welcome a video detailing the entire safety removal process and would be willing to pay for a pair of plugs like the ones you have made.

Thanks everybody for the positive response. Let me work on the plugs a bit more, see if I can fine tune them at all and I will start PMing anyone who is interested.

I'll also try making a detailed video today of the safety removal.

They look good to me! I will be picking up a .22 with thumb safety.

If I don't like it, I know where find you

I'm working on a video right now that explains how to remove the safety so these plugs will fit. I've never made a video before for anything like this, and I am new to guns, so expect the worst video ever.

If anyone is interested in these plugs, shoot me a message and I can start sending them out this weekend.

Yes vid editing can be tricky at first. But if you mess up, just edit it and delete lol.

Not so much editing. Editing I can do. I was a photographer / videographer doing weddings and all that ****. Editing I can do well. It's filming myself doing something I've done only twice, and sounding like I know what I am doing is what's hard haha.

The plugs you made for the M&P 22 look first class. Nice job. I'd be
glad to pay you for a set of them for my M&P 22. The safety is a bit
of a nuisance and you're fix is right on!

Awesome! Shoot me a PM and we'll talk it out!

joblin, just curious, what else do you use your 3D printer for? That's not exactly a cheap investment at $800.

I spent $499 on mine. Built it myself from parts from all over da interwebz. I use it for prototyping a lot. Recently, it's been all gun related prints. AR grips, rail guards, 1911 frame at 50% size ha. But mostly it's for just building prototype things and random things that break around the house.
