m&p22 safety plug

Soooo! How about it? What make this pistol safe if you remove the safety levers??? Or do you carry it with empty chamber?

It makes it no less safe than the centerfire models which come without mag and thumb safeties.

You have the trigger safety and the huge one between your shoulders

Not to mention an unauthorized modification, possible patent infringement, liability when some one "puts "one" through their foot. Great idea, but be careful and DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

People have put one through their foot with pistols that have every safety available.Patent infringement really?

Who carries the m&p22 loaded? Who carries it at all? I think the purpose for this mod is to make it look neater while it's either hanging on your wall, or in your safe. If you're concerned about shooting yourself in the foot while at the range, you probably aren't practicing safe and smart range procedures.

Also, with this mod, a replacement dowel is interested, acting like the original safety only on unsafe. It's no different than a full size with no safety and a magazine safety.

Stupid is as stupid does (concerning safety).

He has made an unauthorized modification to the weapon. People love suing over anything... It won't be S&W that takes a hit if some one does something stupid...

He has not done anything but make a decorative plug.

AFTER he removed the "ambi" thumb safety from the weapon.

The M&P-22 comes with an "ambi" safety from the factory. There is NO S&W option for having a M&P-22 with out an "ambi" thumb safety. That's where the problem lies. If some one (heaven forbid),gets hurt, killed, shoots the dog,or what ever... The first thing that will be asked is why was the FACTORY thumb safety removed and replaced with a plug ? Now,where is the liability ? Not S&W. They replace ALL unautherized parts and make sure the weapon is at S&W's factory spec's before being shipped back to the owner. Now,does the liability fall on the person that removed the SAFETY part ? The person that made the plug to cover the SAFETY removed hole ? Or both ? One for making it and one for using it. ...it's going to be the person that gets hurt that will be making the big $$$$$$$$. And the whom ever's will be the one's paying out the big $$$$$$$$. Remember where we live, lawer's just love this kinda stuff.

The difference is the M&P-22 operates with an internal hammer and is single action. The center fire M&P are double-action only and striker fired. Removing the safety on the 22 and relying on the trigger safety is no different than removing the safety on a 1911 and relying on the grip safety.

Again, your gun, your call. However, it's apparent you have no idea how both versions operate and what the difference is.

I just ordered a M&P22 but I can't stand the thumb safety, eventually I would like to remove.

How do you figure that other M&P's are double-action only? The strikers are fully cocked and fully set or not. They are fully cocked or they are not. There is no in between, unlike a Glock where the striker is half set till you continue the trigger pull DA.. George

Your video was a great help and answered most of the questions i just posted before seeing this. I will PM you for a set of plugs. Thanks

Sorry for the delay. I finally got my 3d printer back up and running.

For any of you who wanted safety plugs for the M&P22, email me at [email protected]. It'll be easier for me to communicate through email over the PM system here.

I'll be able to send them this week. Email me if you're interested, and I'll fill you in with details.

Cheers

Sent you an email at the above link, just in case you see it hear first. I want a pair :) thanks

How would this be his liability? All he did was give someone a little piece of plastic, their the ones that removed their safety.

Shipped out the latest order of plugs. For those who recently ordered, they should arrive in a few days.

I received my plugs the other day. A great upgrade!

Thanks, but you made them. I sanded them down to make them a little more flush to the frame. Here is a pic from the side.

Based on joblin's recommendation I got a jar of acrylic paint. I bought it at Jo Ann Fabric for about $2.50 and have enough to last a life time, and then some :) The brand I got is called Folk Art Outdoor

They look great. Are they textured too?
No, they come in the smooth white plastic that is shown early on in this thread. Mine just turned out that way from the paint.
