Today I purchased a new M&P22 full frame, and once getting the unit home I realized the slide release button that you press with your left thumb when holding the gun in your left hand is *extremely* difficult to release the slide. The right-handed thumb button for the slide release works fine and requires a normal amount of force. I purchased this specific model because it was fully ambidextrous, but after field stripping it and taking a closer look this ambi function seems to have been implemented poorly. The slide "catch point" is on the side of the gun that your right thumb presses, but when pressing with your left thumb on the other side you're pressing on the weak end of a mechanical linkage and have to use quite a bit of force to release. The button actually has a millimeter or two of travel (plus excessive force) before it releases the slide. Has anyone else experienced this? I realize this is a new gun but this problem goes well beyond the breaking in process, as the slide release button for the left thumb is mostly unusable. Thanks in advance for any tried and proven advice.
