Hello everyone, I'm looking into getting a conversion barrel for my m&p40. Can't decide on 357 sig or 9mm. 357sig barrel is about $80 but more pricy to shoot, 9mm is cheaper to shoot but barrel costs about $140. I also like the data the 357 sig puts out, plus no need to buy extra mags. Would love to have both but funds says no. Any suggestions would be helpfull, thanks.

It depends on what you intend on doing. More rounds down range, 9mm. More penetration, .357 Sig. Midway will sell you (backorder) a 9mm barrel for $67.

I just purchased a M&P9 and love it. It is very accurate and with SD 9mm rounds this day it will work for both range and SD. Plus I prefer capacity and faster follow-up shots.

Just visited midways site and your right, $67 and backordered. Now I'm leaning toward 9mm, know of any site selling reasonable priced 9mm mags.

So I went with the 9mm barrel. Midway claims the barrel is backordered til oct 13, but placed my order on oct 5th and recieved it in the mail today ( oct 9). Just waiting for the mags to come in from botach tactical. Thanks for the posts, helped me in my decision.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the 9mm conversion on a .40S&W was not possible? I know you can go to 357sig because the breech face is the same. Is the breech face the same for all three calibers?

I would think you may have a few issues with consistent firing and extraction if you use a 9mm barrel on your 40 slide.

I just got my 9mm S&W Barrel from midway. Ran like a champ in my M&P40c.

The only problem I had with the new barrel was when I ran out of bull's eye to hit.

I don't have personal experience about this, but I know other experienced shooters who strongly state you should only run a 9mm conversion barrel in the 40, not a factory barrel. I know a lot of people report no problems with using the factory 9, but many seem adamant about this being a potentially big problem. As much as I'd like to save $100 and use the factory barrel, I do wonder if it's a short term gain. I'm starting to think just get a second gun in 9mm and forget about the barrel altogether.

This is for range ONLY. Saves money on ammo shooting 9mm vs .40. I see no problem useing this barrel, worst case scenario a few fte/ftf. I can deal with that at the range, heck it will give me practice if I ever need to clear a jam while in a self defense situation. I keep my .40 barrel in at all time and is proven reliable.

I have an M&P 40 FS converted to 357 Sig. I like it a lot it shoots great. I still have my Ruger SR40c in 40 s&w. I use the Ruger as a carry gun and for most of my target practice. The 357 Sig is for Home Defense. I will continue to do enough target shooting with the 357 Sig to maintain adequate proficiency. But I don't see a need to fire a high volume of lead through it.

For cheap shooting, I'd get a .22. Shoot 100 rnds for $8. I see no use for a 9 mm. I might consider getting a 45 someday.

I agree with this 100%. The difference b/w 9mm and .22 is a lot more than 9mm to .40, so in the relatively short run you'll save more money and have two guns. I'm looking at either the M&P22 or the Ruger SR22. I'd get the M&P in a heartbeat if it was made in the USA, but since it's not I'm leaning towards the Ruger.
