I am going to be gettting a 40c soon. When I look on the SW website the 40c has some varations available. I know a few are state complaint, but there are others too.
What are your thoughts on the variations(looks like mostly different safeties?)
Which version do you prefer and why?

I am looking for a CCW and love the 40c. I just want to know which varation is most widely used, and why the need for the different features?

The main ones I am looking into are:

106303 - thumb safety
109003 - not sure? (does it have all but the thumb safety?)
109303 - no mag safety, no internal lock, no thumb safety
and
150955 - comes with X-grip adapter, not sure what the other safety features are with this one? I really like the idea of being able to use a high capicity mag. Is this a good set-up?

Which one will be best suited to be strapped to my waist or a shoulder holster for an everyday carry weapon?

I know I asked alot of questions, any help would be appreciated!
thanks

I prefer the one with the internal safeties, and none of the add-ons.
Basically, I want it to function as near a revolver as possible. I use a holster that covers the trigger and expect it to shoot when the trigger is pulled. Therefore, I keep my booger hook off the bang switch until I want it to shoot.

For those that require/desire, the magazine disconnect and add-on thumb safety that blocks the trigger are available to meet dept requirements or personal preference.

Which one is best? The one you are trained to use efficiently and safely.

Well I guess I should have looked a little harder before submitting this post. I looked last night and there is a HUGE thread that is discussing the various safeties.

So from reading that I think I am going to go with the one without the external safeties, as I have had other pistols in the past(glock, XD) that were similar. I don't want to have to be worrying about an internal lock, or a thumb safety if the situation where I would need to use it for protection.
I didn't hate the other pistols but SW is a brand that has been a favorite for a very long time, and I want to expand my M&P line. I can't wait to get another one(just purchased a M&P 15-22 a few weeks ago).

The other post that talks about the variants of the 40c is titled "assorted safeties" and has some good info for anyone else looking into this.

Hey Bry,
As a 40c owner who uses it for CCW, I agree with everything that OKFC said above as it relates to safeties. I may have even been one of the posters on the "assorted safeties" thread.

What I really want to address is your option/decision to go with a "high(er)" capacity mag. Of course, everyone's personal preference is just that, their personal preference, which is typically based upon a pistol/gun that:
- is affordable
- is the most comfortable/comforting
- you will practice with on and off the range
- will "successfully complete the mission" when called upon

There was a recent thread/discussion on the S&W CCW forum about whether carrying a BUG or duplicate weapon is a good idea. Again, to each his/her own, but in practical terms, you need to determine/decide whether you will ever require more than the 11 round capacity of the pistol. The potential cons (vs. pros) of a higher capacity mag(s) is you'll be carrying around more weight, it will be slightly more difficult to conceal and you'll incur an extra cost for additional mags.

If you'd like to know which/what kind of holster I use, let me know.

I have decided to go with the one without external safeties. I have also been thinking about what you just said about the full size mag in the compact. I would like to have it mainly for range time, but the more I think about it, I need to be practicing with it the same set-up that I will be carrying it with(without ext. mag). So, your right I don't think its a good idea to have the extended mag in the 40c, unless I plan to carry it that way.

Actually what I think I am going to do is get a little crazy and get 2 guns!:)
I have been going back and forth forever deciding on which of the M&P 40's I want.

The 40c with no safeties, no mag lock, no internal lock

and:D:D

The full size 40 with no safeties, no mag lock, no internal lock

Then I will have 2 of the best guns available(at least in my opionon):

Full size for the home defense and the compact for EDC. Of course they will both get heavy range time!

And yes I am very interested in a holster for the 40c that will keep it concealed.
