I called S&W on Friday and the tech I spoke with claims the dimples only help define the machines used in the manufacturing of the part. Now I didn't press him any further and we all know there are good and bad techs.

I guess the real way to find out is to actually measure the twist on the barrel. I'm going to try the method sometime this weekend, unless someone here has measured the new and old barrels.
