M&P9c with CT or get laser later?

I am planning on placing the order for my gun today but there's still one more item I have to consider. I am planning on getting the "standard" model (209304) but for an additional $200 I can get the one with the Crimson Trace grips (220074) right off the bat.

My concerns here are that if my hand doesn't fit the CT grip comfortably then I'm out of luck, I've bought the gun.

However, if I buy CT grips later on they cost $300, which is more. But theoretically I could return that if necessary.

What are your thoughts on this?

Is it possible to treat the CT like a non-permanent upgrade (like extended mags) and just swap it out depending on conditions?

Is the CT that comes with the gun (220074) the same as the retail boxed version?

I'm not sure about the model they sell with the gun, but I have the aftermarket version for my 9c and love it. The grip is a little bigger than medium but smaller than large, which is perfect for me.

You'll save quite a few bucks if you buy it as a factory option, plus it will have a M&P logo on it.

For a small amount more you can buy the LaserMax Genesis which is a pulsating green laser and is rechargeable. It mounts on the rail in front of the triggerguard. The green laser is much brighter and can even be seen in daylight.

We had a LaserMax Green laser (don't think it was called a Genesis) on our AR that dimmed in hot or cold weather, below 50 deg F and above 80. Completely died below 35 and ran for only a few seconds above 110 (think car trunk at 85 deg).
Can't imagine trying to fit that into my duty holster, what do you use?

I haven't decided on a holster yet. When using it as a house gun I mount the laser when carrying it out I remove it. When I find a holster I satisfied with that will work with it, I'll leave it on all the time. The idea of the green laser and especially the rechargeable battery sold me.

I bought my CT grips after I bought my gun. I think the only difference between the factory or after market grip is that the factory grip comes with the S&W Logo. The CT laser will fit most holsters and I have not found one yet where the grips have caused a problem. I am using a Crossbreed ST and a Galco Stinger with my 9c and it fits just fine. Does the factory installed grips also include the S,M & L back straps that come with the M&P pistols? It would be handy to have the regular back straps just in case you need to remove the CT grip for some reason.

i bought a full size M&P 40 from cabela's earlier this year. It had the CT handgrip from the factory and it also did come with the S,M, and L back straps that any other M&P would come with so, you get four grips or back straps. I never take off my CT grip though. Why would I?

I bought my M&P9C with the grips, and am very pleased with it. The Crimson Trace grip works great, was zeroed at 25' right out of the box, and was cheaper than if I bought it aftermarket. I explored other options, but I decided the CT worked best for my hand (I prefer the largest M&P backstrap, which the CT grips are similar to) and I though it was a good deal for a reliable and accurate laser.

Thanks all for the responses. I'm encouraged that so many like the CT grip!

That said, it seems that most people who like the CT grip have expressed that it is either large or medium size. When I shot the M&P9c (without CT) at the range the handle felt a bit bulky. I presumed the range used the large backstrap for rentals but I'm not entirely sure. I figured that it didn't matter since the gun came with 3 types of grips and surely one would fit my hand. However, if the CT grip is about the same as the large backstrap I'm probably in a bad place. I sure wish one of the LGS around here had one just so I could hold it.

Does anyone with smaller hands have the CT grip? If so, how would you rate it?

Yup. I was speaking to someone else about this and he suggested the same thing. Funny that I hadn't thought of that option.

I don't have the figures with me at the moment but the CT grips on the 9C is almost exactly between the med and large grips. I measured it when I first purchased it cus that's the way that I am.
