m+p's shoot low?

My son has bought a couple 40's a compact that shoots to the sights at 25yds, but his full size shoots a full 14" low for both of us at the same 25 yds. Has any one had the same problem. We have tried 165 and 180's and the different back straps, its come up a little with the large insert and 180 gr ammo, but still way low.

My father (posted this question) has shot 2 inch groups with my full size 40 off a rest. The group is 12 inches low at 25 yrds.

From your description of the shooters familiarity with the M&P line, I'd have to agree that something's wrong. I'm leaning toward a "hiccup" in the machining of the front sight blade rather than a barrel. The barrel problem usually results in random strikes all over the map but it sounds like yours is consistent.

Two options:
1. Send it back to Smith, I'm sure they will correct it. Every M&P I own has been dead on out of the box so this would appear to be an aberration.

2. File down the height of the front blade in increments until the POI is where you want it. This is the option I would probably choose if it was mine. I wouldn't want to be without it for the time it takes to transit back and forth to Smith.

I have all calibers in the full size m&ps and my 40 and 357 sig shoot 4" low at 50ft. range off a rest.

Today we got rid of the full size 40 and got the m&p40L (5" barrel) and it shoots to the top of the sight with 180 grain and to the bottom of the sight with 165 grain. The pro shoots like a dream compared to the full size m&p. No adjustments needed left or right. Finally got a good one I guess. Thank you for all the feed back.
