"M Squad"!!!!

When I was a wee fella our family used to watch this show. I remembered only one episode. Three bad guys in a station wagon with a bazooka. When a cop pursues them in his squad car one of the bad guys climbs into the back of the station wagon with the bazooka and blows up the pursuing cop in his car.

I was only about 5 or 6 years old then but I already was a military "whiz" (just kidding) BUT, I did wonder back then how'd he shoot the bazooka in the station wagon and not knock out the front windshield or the two guys in the front seat?

I found the show on YouTube, its called, "Pitched Battle At Bluebell Acres". Along about 11:20 in the video you'll see the "action".

Lee Marvin, "M Squad", thirty minute show, there's a lot of them on YouTube. Great stuff.

I viewed this episode. Interesting that all the LEO cars were black fords and the uniform officers wore long sleeve white shirts with tie. I missed the first part and wondered what armory in Chicago stocked machine guns (Thompson) with loaded magazines on hand , and a Bazooka, plus only one elderly nightwatchman ??

Wickapedia- Detective Lieutenant Frank Ballinger in the 1957–1960 NBC hit crime series M-Squad. I remember that show, we watched it all the time. I was 10 yrs old when it started. I remember when I started driving that all the police officers wore long sleeves and bow ties even in the summer. In 1968 when I first became an officer we had to wear ties (the long ones) year around. But we had short sleeves in the summer.

I remember the show, none of the particular episodes. But it might have been my first exposure to Lee Marvin. Of course, Chino in The Wild One, ("Hey, Johnny, call my mama and tell her I'm in jail.") set the tone for Marvin forever. M Squad did nothing to diminish it.

Just finished season 1 and 2 at deer camp. Sis bought them on DVD. 117 episodes.

I remember when Cops wore neckties, with a tie clasp as well.

I never watch any T.V. show or movie and expect "accuracy" or "realism", it's ALL escapist drama and that's what makes it enjoyable.

I can remember in the mid to late 1970s and Hollywood got on a kick of making "message" movies (political and "real life" drama) and away from escapism. There were serious news articles about such topics as "Is the movie industry doomed?" Because the "message" movies were junk.

I think Steven Spielberg brought back a large part of the escapism movies with "Jaws" and "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". He's filthy rich now (I think).....................

Watching fiction movies involves willing suspension of our disbelief. Ignore the factual inconsistencies and enjoy the entertainment.

I remember that series too. IIRC, In one episode he goes on the hunt for a (armed robbery?) suspect that wears a bullet proof vest. He checks in his 38 and checks out a 357 .
You didn't hear much about body armor,,shows rarily made any fuss over specifics about firearms.,,,and they smoked a lot on TV back then..
