Springfield Armory Geneseo Il, NOT the Springfield Armory, the former MFR in Springfield MA, is licensed to make M1 Carbines in many configurations. here is an example that I saw on my local range just yesterday, which he bought from Springfield Armory Geneseo IL. His was an M! Scout manufactured recently chambered in 308 and 18 inch barrel. Then I showed him my 1943 Correct M1 Garand from the Original Springfield Armory Ordnance. Here is A pic of my M1 Garand, and the website with the NEWly Manufactured M1A https://www.springfield-armory.com/m1a-series-rifles/m1a-scout-squad-rifles/ Hope this clears things up, 3GF
I recall in the late 1990's when it was advertised in Shotgun News that Springfield, Inc., was going to produce M1 carbines. Not long before that time there was an influx of reimported USGI carbines into the USA from both Korea and Israel and it softened the carbine price market. As a result, it seems Springfield, Inc, backed off on the plan to produce M1 carbines and they sold off the M1 carbine receivers they had already manufactured at pretty reasonable prices.
I bought a couple of the Springfield, Inc., receivers in the early 2000's for around a hundred bucks each. They were very well made and fully USGI compatible. I spent the next couple of years accumulating new old stock USGI parts and assembled complete M1 carbines. I even found a never used original USGI replacement barrel made by the original Springfield Armory back in the 1950's to install on one of the receivers. It was certainly educational and a lot of fun to build up these two carbines.
Thanks for all the replies. The picture is like the one I have. Lewis Machine and tool made around 3000 forged steel receivers for Springfield around 1997? Marked Springfield Armory on the receiver Geneseo on the side of receiver. I read they sold off the receivers and barreled actions. Mine has various WW II parts to complete it.
