M1 Rifle fans?

I got mine through DCM, it wasn't "unissued" but it came in good shape.

Around the same time, Woolworths had barrels of "Blue Sky" reimports from Korea that were dirt cheap. I was stupid and passed on those because they weren't "pretty."

My love affair with the M1 started in college when I joined my NROTC unit's drill team. We drilled with M1s which made us very unusual because most of the competition had either M14s or 1903s. Forty four years later, I still remember the serial number of my rifle and all of the specs of the rifle.

Just got my 1st one. Kinda a grail gun for me because my Dad carried one in Korea and my Uncle had one in WWII.
It's a November 1943 build with mostly WWII vintage parts except for the op rod from 1954 and a new CMP walnut stock.

The CMP is really the only place to get an M1. The prices are right and you know the gun has been properly vetted. Well worth jumping through a few hoops to be eligible.

Here's the one that I got from the CMP and held for around 8 years or so. I sold it before we moved out west. As I recall, it was a 1953 model. Great barrel and very accurate.

I've only got one Garand. The receiver is 1944 Springfield. The rifle was refurbished by Tony Giacobbe, a/k/a, the "Garand Guy" in 2012. It has never been shot since the refurbish. It would be comparable to the CMP Special class of Garands.

These things are beauties just to behold: I view them as no less than impeccable examples of modern industrial artwork.

Swearing in, Summer of '66, met a high school buddy who joined the Marines.
He was an island boy from Jamaica.
When I asked him if he knew the difference between the Marines and the Army, he replied that they were the same but the Marines had nicer uniforms.
Heard he played pro soccer after his tour in SEA. :D

I have an all-correct Remington 03-A3 from DCM back in the Dark Ages (I think it was 1975 or so, and a Springfield M1 S/N 820,xxx. The barrel has been replaced with a 1964 Springfield Armory tube, and like most Arsenal reworks is a parts mixmaster.

Even so, it is MY M1, and it will be taken from me when
I join my comrades-in-arms.

Picked up a Garand because I couldn't afford an M1A. Never been disappointed, never looked back.

Yeah, I have a few, after selling off a bunch. Still have a Winny, HRA, IHC and a few Springfields including a 6 digit. Bought most @$495.
A few 03's and 03A3's, missing a Rock Island. A Winchester P17, and an M1A, rounds off things.

Nice work! I like the wood and metal color. These guns are for shooting. I don't think you can wear it out

I got one in the late 1970s. Had to join a club and shoot a match to qualify. Got a SA in as close to 100% as I've ever seen a Garand. Then in 1985 all my guns were stolen...except for the M1. The punks left it behind for some reason. I should have kept it but I decided there were other guns I wanted to replace so I sold it. About 10 years ago I ordered another.

I wanted a decent shooter rather than historical so I requested a 1950s H&R. The metal was perfect. No flaws. The wood was a total disaster. Not one square inch wasn't dented or gouged. I stewed for a couple years then paid too much for a smith put on a new walnut stock. It looks better and I try not to think about it cost me. I was hoping for a 1955 but I think it was made in 1954.
