I picked up a "different" M-10 today and was wondering if anyone had any info on it. My Dad has a SCSW, but there wasn't much info. It's a blue, 3", fully enclosed ejector, red ramp front sight, rb M10-10. The box and paperwork came with it. The serial number is SBPY2***, the product code is 100135. It has a turn line, otherwise is in excellent condition. The action is alot nicer than my 686. It didn't have the original grips, and doesn't look like it has been fire alot. I understand it was part of a Brazilian contract, anymore info? Thanks

"The Book" says special production for a Brazilian contract, 1995, as you have described it. What else is there to know?

Atlantic one of our most knowledgable members, Smithnut, will be the one to give you the details on it. If you decide to part with it or know where another is please send me an email to the email address in my profile. Thanks.

I was wondering how many were made, for who/which agency, and if it's considered rare or particularly desireable.

atlantic157,
I don't know the actual agency nor the original contract quantity, sorry. That is a very desireable gun, however, and the known "over-run" guns that stayed in the US are actually a low amount, somewhere less then 50 from what I recall. I'm away from home so don't have any notes with me, sorry.
The shrouded ejector rod is certainly a differentiating feature, as well - the cylinder on these is the 357 mag length, if you measure compared to a standard M10 you will see that it is longer.
Niced find, I'm sure you wouldn't have any issue selling it if you desire.

BTW - there seems to be an extra digit in your serial number, possible the leading "S", there should only be 3Alpha4Numeric in the sn. Maybe you read this on the box? If you look at the butt of the revolver, you'll see the correct number (if you have oversize grips on it, you may need to remove them to see the sn).

Here's mine, I looked for quite awhile before finding this example.

SmithNut,

that is the gun. You are correct, the serial number in BPY2***. There are no special markings/crests/import stamps on the gun that I can tell. The serial number is the dot type engraving, but the 10-10 stamp in the yoke is the older style. The right grip has 3562 025, the left has B25 490 and a larger Y and J. The full serial number is in the yoke, and the crane has 025 on it. The gun came with oversize ruber Hogues, the Pachs are there until I can get a set of correct factory grips for it. I bought it intending to use it for ccw and so my wife could move up a little from her M18. Am I making a mistake shooting it? I know how the argument goes, but at the same time if there's less than 50 in the States, maybe I should be looking for something else. Any idea on a value?

I'd shoot it and enjoy the heck out of it, afterall it's a M10

As for value, this theme was discussed on another thread about M10-4 units, the only premium someone would pay for a scarce M10 variation is if they were a dedicated collector and needed a unique variation that was missing in their herd.
It's tough to put a value on these, but suffice to say it's going to be a premium over a standard M10.
Going back to the question about shooting, just take it out and enjoy it, that way when you want to sell it I can beat you up on the condition and get it cheap

These may well have been for commercial sale there, hence no official markings.

Brazil limits revolvers to .38 Special caliber (or less) for civilian and police, in most cases.

Hey atlantic 157, you ought to be a "real nice guy" and give that to your old man!

Hey Bearpa, you need to stop shooting lead on indoor ranges... How about you trade me for that pair of 3" 625s you never shoot, you should throw in that 696 to cover my shipping costs too!

MJR, thanks for the help with the pics. SmithNut, I'd like to contact you directly if it's ok. Al, I'll be in touch, and thanks to everybody for the comments.
