Excuse my little tangent but I was a Sheriff's Explorer as a kid. The Explorer Captain was a psycho woman who had a power complex with zero clue on how to talk to us other explorers. One of the explorer sergeants got arrested by our own agency for stealing from his work. Another explorer had been kicked out for abusing his Sheriff credentials. Then he went to a hospital and pretended to be a nurse, got arrested. Then he went to Miami and pulled someone over while carrying a Glock 22 and one our agencies radios he stole in an attempt to impersonate LEO. During a camp out at the Boys Ranch one of our Deputy Seargants tried to pick a fight with a fire battalion chief in front of us. Final straw that really broke me and caused me to abandon all law enforcement aspirations was when a Lieutenant Deputy zip tied my hands and threatened me with "resisting" because I told a protestor that I respect and will defend her right to protest. The Sheriff of this same agency, a different sheriff though, was just arrested by the state on serious charges.
To this day I believe my decision to never get involved in law enforcement was the best thing I ever did. I stay away from cops, I don't speak a word to them, I don't call them anymore no matter what's going on. If I ever have to use a firearm in self defense I'll call the fire department to come for the body and my attorney to handle the rest. The only agency I ever really grew any respect for was Grady Judds Office in Polk County. But even then his deputies lied about a dogs signal to gain entry into my dads car in an attempt to accuse me of carrying narcotics.
