I think out of the nearly 10 million M10's produced, I've owned at least a million of them. So, today I completed my collection of 10-5's. . .four guns with barrel lengths of 2, 4, 5, and 6 inches all made in 1967-1968 with high C or very low D Serial Numbers. Each gun is at least 95% and I've invested $450/$375/$250/$385 in the four guns in order of barrel length. I have a very high affinity for the 10-5 since it got me through high school, college, and graduate school plus everywhere from then until now. In addition, they are cheap with a bottom on my investment so close to my cost that there is virtually no chance of ever losing any money on these guns. The 6 inch barrel came to me today. I know that the 6 inch barrel on these 38 Specials is very common on pre-WWII guns. It seems like every one I own has that barrel length. THE QUESTION IS: How uncommon is the 6 inch barrel on a 10-5??? I've never seen or owned one. The gun dealer who found this one for me has also never seen one, and he travels to big gun shows most every weekend. I've about lived in gun stores and pawn shops since I was 14. I didn't even realize that my set of 10-5's needed this gun until today.

Gee Whizz, I aint never seen a gun shop owner with a tall tale on a gun.
All kidding, you have a great collection that are all shooters. They represent the heart of S&W. I have the same choir in my safe. Solid, safe and reliable. Good job, you aint done yet so get back to work. Many more to find. Best.

I can't help ya' with there with the question of rarity Doc
but that is a nice brace of model 10's there.
The fun is in the hunt.
Keep on keepin' on.

Chuck

10-6 built in California. 8&3/8" barrel. You need a 10-5 like it. Bob

They also made a 2.5 inch but less than 800 or so made. It is a 10-8. Mine is below. I also have the S&W letter for it. They also made a 3 inch standard barrel and I have one. I also need a 6 inch.

What no 3 inch or HB?

Because the OP was discussing specifically the 10-5, not the Model 10 in general, and there were no 3" 10-5s! There were also no heavy barrel guns as the 10-5 is specifically a standard barrel. The -5 designates the front sight change from 1/10" to 1/8" on the standard barrel model.

they mustn't be that rare because when i got mind(10-5, 6'') the guy selling it had two of them.

You don't have a complete set. How about nickel & round butts?

Oh, and I recently had an Australian Police 3" square butt 10-5. So, I guess the search goes on.........

Sorry! :o

Then why do I have 2 of them ?
