Any recommendations? Anyone have a Bassett? Reviews look good but I'd like feedback on this or any others members might have.

I have used the A.R.M.S. #18 mount with their #22 throw lever
rings for many years on my SA M1A with 100% function of the rifle.

Another vote for the A.R.M.S. mount. I tried the Springfield aluminum mount on mine, and it never really stayed tight, or held zero. I mounted my A.R.M.S. mount using blue locktite and a torque wrench, as per the instructions, and it has stayed tight and consistent thru about 3 thousand rounds.

+1 for the sadlak... mine has thousands of rounds down range witout a prob. pay the money, you'll thank us later!
Another +1 for the Sadlak mount. Great documentation with the mount, plus excellent technical support. Easy to mount and set up.
I have a Springfield Armory M-1A. Originally thought about the more expensive steel model. Called Sadlak. They asked if I would be going through the bush stalking wild animals. I'm target shooting only. They recommended the less-expensive aluminum model for me. Saved some $$$, too!
I originally purchased a SA mount. The instructions required a microscope to read and were difficult to follow. Had to return it for a credit.
I also checked on the Internet for the best scope mounts and Sadlak won, hands down!

Bassett low mount. On and off with ease and no zero loss. Add to that a Bradley cheek rest and your all set. Lots of range time. Try the iron sights. Just great.

Ok mounts now what scope?
I use the Bushnell BDC scopes on all my rifles. My m14S has the Bushnell banner BDC (bullet drop compisation) out to 450/500 yds. One shot one kill. All my hunting rifles have the mechanical turret BDC.

Thanks all for your help! I do love the open sighte but these old eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be.

I found a USGI mount on GB and used it for a couple years. Seemed to keep 0 well but as others told me and I found out the M1a/M14 is a hard rifle to scope. Also the rail on the mount I had was seven inches long and I had to have it cut so the front scope objective wouldn't touch the rail.
Another vote for Sadlak too. I bought one of their rounded guide rods to help with accuracy also.
I ended up removing it and selling back on GB and went back iron sights.

Right now I'm mounting a Leupold 2-7 that I have. Nice durable scope and 2x allows for a close shot if necessary.....

Bill Bassett had me do some of the R&D shooting for his picatinny rail mounts. And he did a good job of translating my suggestions into the mount that became his current most popular. I like the Bassett mounts better than any of the other makers for a couple of reasons. First it is lightweight and second it can be removed and then remounted later in seconds with less than 1 moa change in point of impact. With the high mounts you can see the iron under the mounts both regular and picatinny. Bill Bassett made a special low regular mount for me with 20moa of elevation built in for long range shooting. The picatinny mount I have does not have the elevation built in though he did make some like that. The mounting tool that comes with it also doubles to grease M14/M1A bolt rollers on the newest models. He has passed away but the mounts are still available through his old website. His daughters are running the company now, I believe.
